The Islamists who committed the Charlie Hebdo massacre in Paris should be not be described as “terrorists” by the BBC, a senior executive at the corporation has said.

Tarik Kafala, the head of BBC Arabic, the largest of the BBC’s non-English language news services, said the term “terrorist” was too “loaded” to describe the actions of the men who killed 12 people in the attack on the French satirical magazine.

Mr Kafala, whose BBC Arabic television, radio and online news services reach a weekly audience of 36 million people, told The Independent: “We try to avoid describing anyone as a terrorist or an act as being terrorist. What we try to do is to say that ‘two men killed 12 people in an attack on the office of a satirical magazine’. That’s enough, we know what that means and what it is.”

Mr Kafala said: “Terrorism is such a loaded word. The UN has been struggling for more than a decade to define the word and they can’t. It is very difficult to. We know what political violence is, we know what murder, bombings and shootings are and we describe them. That’s much more revealing, we believe, than using a word like terrorist which people will see as value-laden.”

19-year-old Zac Evans was hacked to death with a machete outside a pub in Gloucester early Saturday morning in an attack that left another two men with serious injuries.

Details are yet to emerge but suspicions are that Zac may have been beheaded by an Islamic extremist.

This attack bares obvious similarities to the attack in Finland recently by a Somali immigrant who attacked three men outside a pub with a machete.

British press have as usual not given any clue as to the perpetrators identity which usually means the attacker is an immigrant, possibly Muslim.

Is this the start of a wave of machete Jihad attacks on European people outside pubs?

A pub car park may seem like an ideal location for Jihadists to, as the Quran commands, “lie in wait and ambush disbelievers”:

Of course it wasn't carried out, at least not yet, because the real law saved the individual before the sentence could be carried out. Then there are the 'family' courts that have already been discussed. Those too are based on sharia law, at least the agreements that flow from them are. As Ogg pointed out there is little that the officials can do about such private treaties unless they are in blatant violation of the law. But one has to wonder how many of those agreements, especially with respect to child custody, are entered into under duress?

Just like the "no go" zones that don't exist. Of course that all depends on how you want to parse the language. Just as the seasoned business traveler stays away from any area in a metropolitan area that has a Martin Luther King street (or Ave, or Pkwy, etc.). There are no signs erected that say, "High crime area, enter at your own risk." you just don't go there unless you're looking for drugs or trouble. Locally it's the South Valley. The area is dominated by MS-13 and/or the Latin kings. You just don't go there, ipso facto, a 'no go' zone.

So if you are looking for me to admit that there are no officially sanctioned sharia law areas in Europe, fine, I admit it. But the operative phrase is "officially sanctioned." And I'll add the word 'yet' to the mix. Because without forceful action on the part of the governments, local and national, there well could be such officially sanctioned zones in the future. I hope not, but only time will tell.

Similarly, many countries (including ours) allow for two parties to resolve disputes using negotiators, some of which use religion as the basis for resolving the dispute. There are Jewish ones, Muslim ones and I believe there are some Catholic ones. Again a total non-issue.
