Woman cut in half by elevator in China

A woman got caught between the door and the elevator while it was moving, and you can just guess what happened next.

That has happened to me many times, and probably to all of us. Sometimes I even deliberately stick my arm through the open doorway. The elevator door has sensors that keep it from closing when there is something in the way.

Apparently, elevator accidents are quite common in China: http://english.cntv.cn/program/china24/20120924/102963.shtml

When I was a kid, I was TERRIFIED of elevators, especially the rickety ones that were in very old buildings.

I still don't like them, and I use the stairs whenever possible.

I don't like them either, I prefer the stairs.

Elevators parts are something that shouldn't be skimped on, the door shouldn't have opened and the emergency stop should have worked, there are also brakes that are suppose to engage to prevent the car from falling. It's actually more heard of when doors open and there is no car.

Screw elevators, the stairs are good exercise.

Then again, they aren't exactly known for their safety regulations..

I don't understand elevators.

You get in, the doors close, and when they open again you are somewhere else. I think there is algebra involved.

Statistically, elevators are very safe and the chances of something going wrong are probably 1 in millions per ride.

When I was little somebody told me that if you could break an elevator you could experience weightlessness so I tried to break every elevator I went in. And I was in the hospital a LOT so I tried to break a lot of elevators. And my mom didn't really watch me so I would jump around, push all the buttons, etc.

I have no idea why no adult ever strait up kicked my ass.

Actually, now that I think about it, I think my mom thought it was funny. Because she'd tell me to push the button. Then I would push all the buttons.

Edit: You know what didn't help that mentality? Willy fucking Wonka. Gene Wilder probably fucked up a bunch of people's elevator's rides by telling little kids that they were magic.
