in an emergency, butter can help in cases of tar stuck to skin as it aids removal of the tar.
grease on a new burn helps keep heat IN the tissue, doing more damage. cold water, des, cold water - and for up to 20 minutes!
once the skin is cooled, cling film is about your best bet to cover the burn in to keep out infection before hospital treatment. if the burn's small, like dolf's, just cool it and let it be. well, ok, you can cover it with a sterile gauze if you want, but just don't put butter on a burn. really. it can create an ideal breeding ground for infection. i'll shut up now.

No, sorry, I was joking. I know about cold water and sterilized bandages - I've even done a St John's ambulance course and successfully resuscitated a plastic torso using CPR...

yeah, me too (though ages ago but i like to keep up to date) - a 7 day course. it was interesting.
