The Isolated Political Blurt Thread

You realize that list is about 10% of the length of the list of LEOs killed in the line of duty over that interval? Possibly about the length of the list of officers killed by "unarmed" assailants with whatever was on hand or a vehicle?

No?

No?

People who sign on for law enforcement know those risks and do so anyway. I briefly considered it myself after I finished my obligation in the Army. But I couldn't see having my wife sit at home every night wondering if I was going to come home because I knowingly put myself in harm's way daily. It's the job.

That in no way compares to unarmed people, some of whom haven't actually committed a crime, ending up dead because an overzealous officer used an unapproved choke hold or shot them when they reached for their wallet for ID. Police officers have the obligation to use the minimum amount of force necessary. If your first instinct is to choke someone out or draw your weapon and fire then perhaps you're in the wrong field.

Not a single person is going to blink if an officer shoots someone who is a legitimate threat to their or another person's life. The problem arises when their is no legitimate threat. When suspects are killed in custody or when an unarmed suspect is dies while being subdued by 3-4 officers and the officer(s) responsible are let go. Not JUST let go, but put right back on the street.

It fosters the "Us vs. Them" mentality and leads to distrust in law enforcement who are supposed to be protectors of the people.

So it's yet another #SpeciousQueryComparison? Gosh, I didn't see THAT coming! ;)

Oh, for goodness sake!

"After six years of obstructing President Obama at every turn, congressional Republicans are getting ready to wail about how unfair it is that he might veto some of their priorities."
- Laura Clawson

Obama should do exactly what Republicans have refused to do through his entire term in office ?

Republicans-
"wahhhhh, [place insulting nickname used by Republicans against President Obama, here]
does not want to do, what we want him to do!"
1.)
Dozens of Obamacare repeal votes?
2.)
Endless, fruitless Benghazi investigations?
3.)
Pretending that there is a Presidential scandal of the week, every week?

"Please, President Obama, work with the Republicans like they've worked with you!"

Anonymous asks: what do you think about #JeSuisCharlie

Well, first, why would anyone want to identify under the sign of a racist and xenophobic publication? The problem is that you have large groups of people using this hashtag who never heard of Charlie Hebdo prior to this. But then if you move beyond that small issue, you have the larger issue of this floating ‘Charlie’ figure which has emerged, almost like a person, and who is being defended almost like a person—a martyr, more accurately. If you need a better piece of evidence for the lack of sincerity in the air, also think about the fact that the hashtags aren’t “je suis les douze” or “priez pour la paix.” The focus is not on the criminal nature of this killing, nor really about the journalists killed, unfortunately. Under the guise of mourning and “free speech,” people are defending their right to publish racist and homophobic material. This is about media strategy, not actual death and actual crime. Basically: ‘Charlie’ is not a person; it’s a brand. That’s the reality behind #jesuischarlie, and that’s why I find it, frankly, gross as a placeholder for the real discussions I think France, the rest of the European continent, Britain and the U.S. should be having about racism, religion and national identity.

avantblargh:

Before social media sparks fire and everyone claims the phrase #jesuischarlie I want to point out some lovely truths about Charlie Hedbo that the news media may “forget” to point out.

Though my heart goes out to the victims to the shooting at the Charlie Hedbo headquarters ( I ALSO DO NOT CONDONE THE ACT OF VIOLENCE AS A SOLUTION TO RACISM OR HATE ) I need it to be known that this newspaper was not some sweet periodical that used it’s platform of freedom of speech as a catalyst to social change in France. Before you allow Fox News to label the shooters as Muslim Terrorist and that all Muslims are terrorist and that Charlie Hebdo was a magazines for families and saints you need to know that this newspaper was infamously known for being racist, homophobic, and highly islamophobic. I am not one to laugh at a blatant racist comic as “oh lol free speech” because with free speech comes RESPONSIBILITY.

It should be no secret that the Muslim community in France has often been abused, push to the side, and ignored. Even laws are put in place to prevent then from practicing their beliefs comfortably. For Charlie Hebdo to be a left wing newspaper that questioned the actions of the right wing, why does it often look like they are laughing along with them? Why can’t this magazine question why we are racist and islamophobic than to continue to justify their belief in supposed “ironic” comics?

My prayers go out to the victims of this shooing. As an artist, a person who works in magazines, a human, and as a French woman I feel their pain.

MAIS

JE NE SUIS PAIS CHARLIE

I will not stand for this magazine, I will not celebrate the privilege of “free speech” to be a disguise for hate. I am a black woman who understands how frustrated one can be as whites continue to use laws as an excuse to be abusive to who we are whether it be religion, skin color, or sexual orientation. I know France is scared, I know people are hurting. But I cannot be this newspaper’s ally. I am an ally for the people of France, I am an ally to the victims and their families but I will not stand in solidarity for this hateful newspaper.

JE NE SUIS PAS CHARLIE

The ONLY people who respect anything that Al Sharpton has to say are President Obama, U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, and the looters in Ferguson, Missouri.

Everybody else recognizes him for what he is --- a racist scam-artist!

White ‘Survivalist’ Shoots Police Chief Four Times, Is Released Without Being Arrested Or Charged

In Oklahoma, a white “survivalist” shot a police chief three times in the chest and once in the arm. The shooting did not result in an arrest or charges and the man, identified by local media as 29-year-old Dallas Horton, has been released.

In a press release, the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation said, “Facts surrounding the case lead agents to believe the man was unaware it was officers who made entry.” But Louis Ross, the Sentinel, Oklahoma police chief who was shot, said that he entered the home after “Washita County 911 received two calls from a man who identified himself as Dallas Horton, and claimed to have a bomb inside the head start school.”

Ross cast doubt on the credibility of Horton’s claim that he didn’t know officers were present, noting that there was “screaming from five officers of the law announcing our presence, requesting to see hands.” Ross only survived the shooting because he was wearing a bulletproof vest. He has “massive bruises and welts on his body” and the shot that hit his arm “went clean through.”

In a second statement released yesterday the Oklahoma State Bureau Of Investigation said Horton was “fully cooperating with the on-going investigation” and “no traces of explosives were found.”

A Facebook profile identified by Raw Story, that purports to be from a Dallas Horton of Sentinel, contains numerous racist images.

A sign on the front door of Horton’s home says he’s a “Certified zombie killer.” The mayor of Sentinel, Sam Dlugonski, described Horton as a “gun enthusiast” and survivalist. Dlugsonski was familiar with Horton, saying, “I’ve known that kid all of his life.”

If public opinion polls meant anything, then the 2009 Affordable Health Care Act would NEVER have been signed into law!

ObamaCare has had NEGATIVE approval ratings since day one, but since public approval polls are included in the U.S. Constitution it's still the law. Yes, it's a bad law that's cost the Democrats their legislative power nationwide, but President Obama was clearly prepared to destroy his own party to force through his signature legislative achievement.

And now that the Republicans control both our U.S. House & Senate, they can block any of President Obama's efforts to set-up an embassy in Havana or appoint an ambassador to Cuba.

President Obama wants to restore relations with Cuba because his allies among Hollywood's far-left respect & admire Fidel Castro's Marxist-socialist dictatorship, and really don't care about the brutal oppression of the Cuban people.

Also, with the many growing failures of the 2009 Affordable Health Care Act, President Obama desperately needs a new signature accomplishment for his historic legacy, which looks really bleak right now.
