What happens to the prescriptive/descriptive linguistics/spelling debate when the proles are allowed online en masse?

At one point, the correct spelling of "masturbate" was a status marker. By now, though, awareness of the "masturbate/masternate" (ie, "dominant/dominate") spelling conundrum has filtered down to the lowest levels. Section 8 housing dwellers, people who have purchased meth precursors, Walmart diabetics, know about "masterbate".
