Brownback considering raiding school budgets to shore up his failed economic plan

Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback (R) is reportedly getting ready to propose some form of revenue increases as part of a plan to fix the nearly $900 million budget hole his tax cuts created for the state. But whatever cracks are emerging in his anti-tax facade, the conservative governor’s response to the budget crisis is more likely to focus on spending for the state’s already flailing schools.

Rather than look at altering or rescinding the 2012 legislation that eliminated all business income tax that has turned out to be significantly more expensive than the state originally expected. Also, as an added "bonus" did not in fact, encourage small businesses to move into his tax-free haven as expected.

Brownback may have a problem raiding the education budget for cash he needs though. Schools already compete for scarce resources from the state, and money is so tight at one Kansas City school that school nurses are instructed to use frozen sponges instead of buying ice packs. Judges have already ruled that the state’s current school funding is too low to meet the requirements of the Kansas Constitution in a case that is likely to end up in the state Supreme Court.

I wonder why not?

Maybe because no small-businesscritter wants to pack up and move to a state with crumbling, underfunded infrastructure and schools?

it would be interesting to know

I wonder what the influx of people is into a hard right state like Kansas. A place which is dropping below those pesky regulations even as the states representatives are working to do away with those same regulations.

I mean what kind of people would elect a government that would change the laws so they can fuck you and your kids deeper and harder while they are giving money back to those who don't need it.

I wonder if all the hard right states are losing people to other states.

Kansas had the seventh highest amount of people moving out of state in 2014:

I'm not sure exactly what a "Hard right state" is, but I'm sure it isn't NY, which is second on the list of people leaving. Texas is seventh on the list of people moving there.

New York continues to suffer job losses in the manufacturing sector. Since there are not many jobs being created in manufacturing they have to move to "business friendly" states like Texas. But the "business-friendly" states that are stingy with public education are losers in the long run; they are not developing the skilled workforce that they will need in the 21st Century economy.

I'm not sure, but I doubt there are many mfg. jobs being created in Kansas either.

A state dominated by right wing politics.....

And there are "user fees" for every little thing here in Texas.

2015 is shaping up to be a VERY interesting year here in the Lone Star state. Lots of young professionals working in the oil patch right out of college are now getting furloughed or laid off. The decline in gas prices is really hammering the Energy Corridor companies here. You heard it here first, but it seems we're heading for another oil bust, just like 1986.

Oh I know I had to live there for a while, they get theirs....they always do. They just like to hide it and scream "MINIMHUL GUBBMINT!!" and other buzz words like "FREE-DUHM!!" while doing it so retards like vette actually believe it.

Yea...I have little doubt this oil market swing will have some ripples behind it.

But the question is in R state vs L state what will they do when all these folks are fucked? Will they take care of things with their free market vew dew or will they fill buses to NY/CA with the homeless 1 way ticket holders? You know...that legendary personal responsibility of the right wing and all.
