I get a lot of feedback and comments. I even do pretty good with anonymous. I just received this feedback on an old story (have so many I hardly remember what it's about) and I'm not sure if it is a good or a bad comment. Any opinions?

EVERYTHING WORKED OUT...HOORAY

Comments:

Well another excellent story of cheating, divorce & remarriage........So sorry u had to put that ending into a gr8 story just to fuck it up. I hope u have learned a valuable lesson in life, if it ain't broke don't fix it.

LIT's psychotic readers are what Kings MISERY is all about.

Than particular anonymous is under the delusion that your tale of marriage gone wrong/right was true.

Why are there so many delusional people reading Loving Wives?

I don't have an answer to that one.

I'd take it as mixed: they liked most of the story but not the ending. It doesn't have enough "wimp u shoulda killed her" to be one of the hardcore LW haters but they do seem to be assuming it's autobiographical.

You have a point, from what I've seen of the LW crowd. I post in gentler categories, but there's a reason I don't use my real name.

Freud called it NEGATIVE TRANSFERENCE, I call it discounting the narcissistic dream when the author pulls a surprise on the psychotic reader. LIT readers demand validation, they do not want anything behind doors 2 or 3.

I got this comment on one of my Holiday contest entries. It was a very sad tale of a widower on Christmas Eve.

"This was a truly remarkable piece of writing, John. I hope that putting it down so lucidly might help you to move on. I would like to think that is what your wife would say, too. Thank you, and I hope your Christmas is better than you expect it to be -- five stars and a big hug."

It never occurred to me that people would assume a story on an erotic website was real or that I would need to put a disclaimer on them. Blew my mind.

You can be happy the story was a convincing one. No need for a disclaimer.

I agree, Those are some of my favorite comments. It means you touched the hearts and mind of the reader.

Anonymous=troll

Most people who comment anonymously tend to be trolls who would rather engage in lobbing personal insults at writers rather than providing actual constructive criticism. I tend to ignore them myself unless they actually are providing genuine feedback on way to improve the story rather than just telling me I suck.

To be fair, nearly all of the Anonymous commenters on my stories provide praise, not criticism.

That hasn't been my experience. Most of my anons have been lovely.

I get anonymous comments that are positive and I get anonymous comments that are negative. I have always assumed, in this and other forums, that the definition of a "Troll" is an anonymous poster who intentionally and irrationally attacks the poster instead of leaving constructive criticism or meaningful comments. Non-anonymous posters who do that aren't really Trolls, IMHO, they are just bullies. I don't know that one is better than the other. I like stirring up trolls just for the fun of it. I don't tolerate bullies that attack me because it just makes them more confident to attack others.

Been in Loving Wives have you?

Yes some Anymouse comments can be from trolls but most are not in my experience.

If you do this, you don't really have room to complain about anonymous "trolling," do you?

I don't write stories purposely to poke the squirrel. (Well, other than that once--and I zeroed out voting and comments on that one.)

I didn't think I was complaining about trolls just trying to define the term. It seems to get muddied sometimes. If I came across as a whiner, I apologize.

l really do get a kick out of some of the trolls comments, just because they are so idiotic they make me laugh. I also think they truly are an indication of doing something right. If my story didn't affect them they wouldn't take the time to leave the comment. Troll slobber is an indication that I hit someone's nerve with my story. Poorly written stories rarely hit a nerve.
