Another classic example of how there is no war on women

http://rhrealitycheck.org/article/2...nsin-woman-jailed-states-personhood-like-law/

Tamara Loerstcher was suffering from an untreated thyroid condition and depression and had begun to self medicate with drugs when, in late July 2014, she suspected she might also be pregnant. Loerstcher, uninsured at the time, went to an Eau Claire, Wisconsin, hospital for medical treatment and to confirm her pregnancy.

After submitting to a urinalysis, Loerstcher disclosed her past drug use to hospital workers. But instead of caring for Loerstcher, who as it turns out was 14 weeks pregnant, hospital workers had her jailed.

Those are the allegations in a soon-to-be-filed federal civil rights lawsuit by attorneys from National Advocates for Pregnant Women, the Carr Center for Reproductive Justice at New York University School of Law, and the Perkins Coie law firm.

Loerstcher and her attorneys, in a call with reporters, detailed her experience, including her alleged mistreatment by Wisconsin officials and the ongoing deprivation of Loerstcher’s constitutional rights under a Wisconsin law that grants authorities the power to involuntarily detain and confine a pregnant woman for substance use if she “habitually lacks self-control” and her substance use poses a “substantial risk” to the health of an egg, embryo, or fetus.

Part of this law is based on the bad science that crack-babies were going to be some huge burden on the state. Yes, it is a horrible idea to take drugs while pregnant, and yes the babies are born addicted, but many have gone on to lead very normal lives. It is heart-wrenching to consider a child starting life in detox, but fetal alcohol syndrome is probably worse.

think you missed the point

even if they were trying to get the women off these drugs or alcohol... they wouldnt do so.. by not providing treatment

which is literally the case here

women have actually been arrested for using precripted drugs under this law

it's morality.. not fact which is enforcing these laws

“The jail doctor told me if I chose to miscarry, there wasn’t anything they could do about it anyways,”

This is weird. I've had two miscarriages and a stillbirth. At no time did I choose to lose any of these pregnancies, but I still couldn't stay pregnant. I didn't know women had a way to miscarry by choice. Is there a "legitimate" way to miscarry? I mean, if a woman decides to miscarry, can she do it by thinking her way out of a pregnancy? I'm sick and tired of the state (and the tea party wackos) trying to legislate women and their reproduction. Shit, would they just get a fricking life and work on the fucking job crisis in this country???

Being in jail is a moderately effective way to keep expectant mothers from drugs and alcohol.

Why don't you expand on your crappy remark? I'm not sure what your point is, other than the stupidity of it.

I read that as her agreeing with you? What were you reading?

:) I misread her comment, and apologized privately. I thought about editing my comment, but decided to leave it. It gives a slight gb flavor.

If a doctor say something like that, I'd suggest having their medical license revoked, since they obviously don't know how human anatomy works. Which is kind of important in that like of work.

jail is a very helpful place to the republicans

To the right wing idiots jail is a good place to put the mentality ill, the homeless, and now unloving mothers.

Only the left wing is too stupid to see the vast tax savings that using jail like a hospital, a sanitarium, and a mandatory maternity ward can bring.

We should come up with a new word to describe the huge camps that we have built in every county in America.

I think concentration camps kinda captures the feel of what they are.

so you would have no problem sending a 2 month pregnant woman to jail for having a glass of wine?

because that is alcohol and can harm the baby

and dont call it ridiculous, another woman has been arrested for taking doctor prescribed medications.. because she was pregnant when taking them

What do you mean? This is what the women of these states voted for.

Being in jail is a moderately effective way to keep expectant mothers from drugs and alcohol.

LMFAO!!! The only places easier to obtain contraband are on a school playground or military base.

That's what's so fucking hysterical about the RW war on drugZ works if yazz just sayz no like St.Ronnie said!

To most right wing idiots and a decent chunk of LW idiots jail is a PROFITABLE place to put the mentality ill, the homeless, and now unloving mothers.

FYP....makes mo' sense now dunnit? ;)

So is this the "Republican" war on women... or just the general war on women?

How much you want to bet none of these uterus control freak laws came out of left field???

In fact I defy you to find me one......
