Years of legislation, a war against poverty and trillions in welfare......plenty of shows have been done on inequality in America, it's been beat to death. However getting poor folks to not go blow their money on a bunch of stupid shit isn't as easy as making sure under the law at least that everyone is treated equally.

Transgender discrimination is a relatively easy fix compared to the economy/wealth distribution issues.

And something you mentioned in the OP... I have NEVER understood why sports are segregated by gender. It's weird and totally sounds like something that should be illegal. If you can't compete against athletes regardless of gender, you have no business playing sportsball in the first place. Psychology Today tackles that question and can't come up with a better reason than "Sexist bullshit" since actual gender differences among athletes are negligible it's a social segregation and not a physical one. So... idk. It's weird to mention that transgender women would somehow magically be good at sports. That's just... odd.

But I haven't actually noticed transgender issues being in the forefront now more than they ever have. That might be because I was always aware of it and just never noticed that there were more people waking up. Trans folks have been fighting for their rights for years, and it's been a really difficult battle. Part of that is that we assign gender at birth, which psychologists have known for decades can fuck kids up really bad, since gender rolls are social constructs and have not shown to have any good implications and tons of bad ones. And they change from culture to culture, so it's annoying to have something considered masculine, like textile arts, in a native community, and then have that be considered feminine in a white community. It's annoying for gardening to be masculine in a rural area but feminine in an urban area. And it can fuck you up if you hit those transitions as a child, because even tho they're arbitrary, we place a lot of value on gender identity. For... reasons that have never been adequately explained by psychology or sociology. Since they have no benefit whatsoever. Sociologists have been pushing for years to do away with labels in stores for toys, because it makes no sense whatsoever to label toys by gender rather than interest, and is a determent to children.

So it really isn't just transgendered people who are affected by the things that they're fighting for, so limiting the scope of those types of things to just that segment of the population is in error.

Basically... how fucking hard is it to make co-ed or, like we call them when they're not in schools, "family" bathrooms? Because not having them is annoying as fucking shit. And I notice that in the city they have them EVERYWHERE! But here, even restaurants are like, "Oh you need to change your daughter's diaper? Well she's gonna see stranger dick!"

This was just aggravating the shit out of me earlier because I had to go out to do some shit this morning and couldn't find anywhere to change a fucking diaper. Is something that I think gets engrained in you from being raised thinking that you do what the majority wants, what's been voted in, even if it fucks everybody over. I'm not sure how you fix that, tho. Even as a little kid if you have a disagreement, the first thing you do is 'take a vote'. It's not really cool to take a vote on someone else's body.

And I kinda think if you aren't up to par with other athletes and get punished for it, that's on you.

Doesn't bother me. I'm also glad that Laverne Cox and Janet Mock are at the forefront of this new recognition/definition movement. They're saying good stuff in the smartest way without allowing or giving space for ignorance to take over the narrative.

Cox has said something to the effect that most people don't know how to process transgenders because society up until this point has indoctrinated you to think it's a purely sexual aberration that exists in/for pornography and the sex life instead of a personal lifestyle using the freedom and choice to redefine your identity into what you feel most comfortable being.

For many people, porn is the only reference they have to those existing outside the "norm" and it's a shitty way to learn about others different from you. Not everyone is gonna understand or accept this and it's small steps going forward like all social movements that seek to improve the lives of a minority.

Let people live, basically. It's never gonna actually damage the stat quo. Whenever I walk in the city, I'm still bombarded by images of cis white women, usually blonde, thin and leggy, as THE de facto standard of beauty and THE social definition of "woman." I seriously doubt I'll ever see that media paradigm change up completely in my lifetime.

Yes. There's more variation within genders than cross-genders. If I had a full-blood female sibling, her stats would be nearly equal mine. If I were female, the hormonal difference is not great enough to change base stats. It's the training that changes them. In fact, there have been long-term studies that show that this is cultural. My culture is actually a good example of this. Cherokee women, at least in the Eastern Band, play football really well. This is because they aren't conditioned to think that they can't. I know that Karmaloff-Smith did some cross-cultural studies with infants, and parents thought and encouraged male children- AS YOUNG AS THREE MONTHS OLD to do more dangerous and trying physical tasks than female children. They were perceived as being able to train more, as being more physically capable far before there would be ANY gender difference whatsoever, because that doesn't even kick in until puberty.
