I ran into this article and found it very interesting. It supports what I have always suspected: there are valid points that should be considered from both sides of the gun control argument.

Rethinking Gun Control

"Background checks are back. Last week, Vice President Joe Biden said that five U.S. senators—enough to change the outcome—have told him they’re looking for a way to switch their votes and pass legislation requiring a criminal background check for the purchase of a firearm. Sen. Joe Manchin, the West Virginia Democrat who led the fight for the bill, is firing back at the National Rifle Association with a new TV ad. The White House, emboldened by polls that indicate damage to senators who voted against the bill, is pushing Congress to reconsider it.

The gun control debate is certainly worth reopening. But if we’re going to reopen it, let’s not just rethink the politics. Let’s take another look at the facts. Earlier this year, President Obama ordered the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to assess the existing research on gun violence and recommend future studies. That report, prepared by the Institute of Medicine and the National Research Council, is now complete. Its findings won’t entirely please the Obama administration or the NRA, but all of us should consider them. Here’s a list of the 10 most salient or surprising takeaways..."

"How to get the camel's nose a few inches farther into the tent."

Gun control: Still a boon to Mexican Drug Cartels.

Gun control is hitting what you shoot at, when you shoot at it and where you shot at it.

What those people are talking about is restricting the sale and possession of fire arms. It will start out with people with criminal records and the mentally handicapped or insane.

Ten to twenty years later it's everyone for whatever reason. "Bad Guns" "Good Government"

At least that is the way it happened in the other countries.

And they almost unanimously have significantly lower rates on a whole host of violent crimes to show for it......

What say you to that?

Figure of speech.

You will do what ever the government tells you to do and like it.

What are you and the rest of the citizens going to do ... write them a letter in protest? ( are you a citizen of the USA?)

The people who founded this country knew what would happen with out firearms and strongly suggest we not give them up for "safety" or anything else.

Same thing every american has done for the past 150 or so years....what they tell me.

What are you and the rest of the citizens going to do ... write them a letter in protest? ( are you a citizen of the USA?)

Or elect a new rep....that's the normal civilized thing to do yes.

I know it's hard to believe not every american is a die hard bat shit RW bible thumper....but yes I am a citizen. Combat veteran even.....

So what about restricting crazy's access to guns = hitler again???

The people who founded this country knew what would happen with out firearms and strongly suggest we not give them up for "safety" or anything else.

The only person talking about giving up guns entirely is YOU!!!!

Democrats lost the gun control fight. There is much more national support for gun rights than there is gun control.

Only temporally.

As soon as the "Tradition > logic and reason" crowd (mostly the RW'ers like yourself) die off....we as a nation are going to restrict access to firearm purchases.

Tick tock....

There is never "rethinking" of gun control. Only endless re-branding and repackaging.

Any "thinking" about it would show we have a criminal violence problem in the same areas of the country that we always have criminal violence.

Instead of focusing on that problem and the less than savory conclusions one might draw, lets focus on what color a gun is, and who, among the law abiding, owns what.

Hammers don't kill people, people with hammers kill people. And people with hammers commit more unjustified homicides than people with rifles.

Guns do not accidentally kill actual children. Guns do kill a lot of teens up to 26 year-old gang members that get labels in the stats as children. Guns left out by idiotic, irresponsible parents occasionally result in a tragic death. Far less often than bathtubs, household cleaners or swimming pools do.

I have "thought about it" in far more depth than any gun control proponent I have ever talked to, and I have come to the conclusion that in all forms it is an idiotic idea, advanced by either idiots, or people with some other agenda. That is the polite version of my "thinking" on the subject.

You might consider requesting this administration-led PR campaign to score political points over to the political board.

So? Justice's change man...I'm talking about 20 years from now, not next week.

Which side of this issue are you on?

If you are going to make our points for us...well Damn!

"As soon as the "Tradition > logic and reason" crowd (mostly the RW'ers like yourself) die off....we as a nation are going to restrict access to firearm purchases.

You are a Mad dog ant gunner. Just go ahead and admit it.

The side of what is best for the US of A and it's citizenry.

You are a Mad dog ant gunner. Just go ahead and admit it.

I own 2 fully automatic weapons, 8 suppressors, several assault rifles, several bolt action rifles ranging from .308 to .338, 2 shotties and I have a nice little collection of pistols and probably have more trigger time than 99% of the board.

Try again......

US has a gun violence issue....what do you suppose we do about it??

He mentioned rifles specifically for a reason. Honesty and truth had nothing to do with that reason.

You have openly supported banning rifle accessories to solve a handgun issue more than once. Sorry.....but on the subject of gun control I can't take you much more seriously than the "BUT HITLER!!" crowd until you prove not to be a typical LW anti gun whackadoodle.

Honesty and truth won't let me....
