Washington POST reports a lynching in North Carolina. I read the article and I suspect its the real deal. The black kid, eighteen, was hanged with belts at a playground at night. His mama blames it on the white woman he was fucking. The belts make me think it was for something else. The kid was an athlete.
Lynchings are a peculiar interest of mine. In the 19th century they were usually a solution to a problem the police wouldn't deal with. In many cases politicians hired blacks to assassinate competitors for office or love or money. Or blacks were hired for arson or to murder revenue agents harassing moonshiners (also called blind tigers). And when the sheriff was slow to act folks took care of the problem.
One of my long dead relatives left a detailed account of a lynching administered by my family. The victim was a white man who raped and murdered the daughter of my ancestors brother. The daughter was biracial and married to a black man, she was the result of a sexual union between her father and a black New Orleans woman. He put the daughter in his will and she moved to Tallahassee to collect her estate. He was married to a white woman who was fucking his nephew but that's another story...father and nephew had a gunfight in Tallahassee. But he died of yellow fever, and the wife had a baby.
So the dead daughters husband appealed to my family to help him deal with the white killer, and they did. About 8 men of my family made the killer vanish. They were arrested and tried but nothing came of it.
