Some of my wife's female ancestors were Watermen (sic) on the River Thames.

Because history was written by men, women were omitted.

For example, there were women on Nelson's ships at the Battle of Trafalgar. Do they get a mention? No.

I am guessing that the first reason that the few TP Party Conservatives are making objections, is for attention and free publicity.

They are trying to display how hardcore they are, to their nutcase, wingnuts base.

The second reason that the TP Party Conservatives are objecting, is that women will be less invisible.

The false claim that the majority of America's women want repression of their rights, and a lesser share of what they are entitled to, will be shattered.

The third reason is that this new National Women's Museum will be a library of facts.
Nobody connected with the Tea Party Conservatives wants to be shamed by exposure of their lies, fabrications, misleading statements, and sham arguments.

The Tea Party has been operating by pretending they have vast support.
Suddenly, it is two men holding up the final vote.

Possibly because this bill, HR 863, has nothing to do with actually building a museum but only creates a commission to study the possibility of a museum and it's effect on regional womens museums. The bill also specifically prohibits the use of federal funding for said museum. So, once again, a totally meaningless bill passed by a congress with their heads firmly planted in their asses.
