HR 863

383 in favor of giving the museum a chance.
33 said no.

Trying to get the museum built, since 1999!

Everyone said yes, this time. Except for two men-

Jim DeMint and Tom Coburn

Because the museum would focus on abortion rights?

Ask the women of the anti_abortion group that asked DeMint for a hold on the bill.

"There will be no exhibits on abortion rights."
(Fundraising would be crippled by a fight about abortion. The museum needs millions of dollars to be built.)

According to these two Republican men-

Women do not deserve help, wild animals and sea creatures do not deserve help, but people who teach abstinence only, do!

because MOST of history was made by them

True, but if there can be museums for obscure motor manufacturers, for varieties of Baked Bean packaging, for sex toys, for needles - I can't see any objection for a Women's History Museum.

Some of my female ancestors ran businesses in the 19th Century, were members of craft guilds in the City of London for hundreds of years, trained apprentices etc.

Some of my wife's female ancestors were Watermen (sic) on the River Thames.

Because history was written by men, women were omitted.

For example, there were women on Nelson's ships at the Battle of Trafalgar. Do they get a mention? No.

The objection is making men pay for the museum out of the mere extra 23 cents that they get paid for toting around external genitals.

That and no one will go see it. If it was thought people would private donors could have been found.

Plus. we need the funds to study shrimp on treadmills.

Their body, their museum, I say.

Because history was written by men, women were omitted. No, History is written by those who can, and that has been mosty men...stop being paranoid

For example, there were women on Nelson's ships at the Battle of Trafalgar. Do they get a mention? No..........On the ships:rolleyes:, there must have been baggage and rats as well, do they get mention?.

Womens Basket Ball League....NO ONE CARES, there will be 9 visitors a yr

Women's basketball, maybe.

Women's football in the UK had all seats sold for a full crowd in our National Football stadium of Wembley recently.

The English team lost to Germany - something our men's team do too frequently.

Locally, our women's football team had an attendance of 167 at a recent match. The men's team just about reaches 200 watchers.

.On the ships, there must have been baggage and rats as well, do they get mention?.

The baggage and rats weren't part of the fighting forces. Two French women who were rescued by the English had been serving with gun crews.

Other women on board were 'serving' in a different sense.

A detail of the famous picture of The Death of Nelson in our National Maritime Museum shows three women helping to look after an injured sailor. No one at the time or since has suggested that the women weren't there. They just weren't officially recorded as part of the crew. The French Navy listed women as equals, rated as sailors, gunners, etc.

well, OGG....there is THE answer:D

No it isn't.

The women weren't officially there. So they weren't mentioned in the history of the Battle although the two French women were recorded at the time.

you do egt the point....unwilling to admit you ghet the oint

It's primarily because a women's history museum would be empty but for an exhibition on good queen Bess.

Women: Not much in the way of history!

What kinds of objections, would you expect from the American Tea Party Conservatives/ Libertarians ?

An objection that serves the needs of the Koch brother's agenda (ALEC is like an octopus. It has many arms, but the arms all serve the mouth of the octopus, that is Koch Industries.)

#1
Too expensive!
#2
Think of the taxpayer!
#3
The government has too much control over land in America!
How can the 1% buy up the land, and gain control,
if the government protects it?

#4

wahhh! It is not a bipartisan museum!
It is not fair, that Anti-Abortionists and Anti-Woman organizations will not be allowed to bully a Pro-Feminist organization!
wahhh! They would not make an Anti-Feminist the Queen of the committee, when she whined about it.

Feminazi rebellion will control the message!
Feminazi rebellion will glorify abortion!
Feminazi rebellion will promote Liberal ideology!
Feminazi rebellion will give a voice to Liberal advocates!

#5
wahhh! The museum will not promote the free market!

#6

It will honor Bella Azbug and therefor it will offend those who served the military, because that woman advocated cuts in military spending!

gsgs opinion-

I am guessing that the first reason that the few TP Party Conservatives are making objections, is for attention and free publicity.

They are trying to display how hardcore they are, to their nutcase, wingnuts base.

The second reason that the TP Party Conservatives are objecting, is that women will be less invisible.

The false claim that the majority of America's women want repression of their rights, and a lesser share of what they are entitled to, will be shattered.

The third reason is that this new National Women's Museum will be a library of facts.
Nobody connected with the Tea Party Conservatives wants to be shamed by exposure of their lies, fabrications, misleading statements, and sham arguments.

The Tea Party has been operating by pretending they have vast support.
Suddenly, it is two men holding up the final vote.

The Tea Party has become The Emperor has no clothes to cover his nakedness.
There are too many pointing and laughing at the joke of keeping up a pretense,
long after the facade lost the power to deny the truth.

I think there will be no museum because the audio buttons will sound like that^

Possibly because this bill, HR 863, has nothing to do with actually building a museum but only creates a commission to study the possibility of a museum and it's effect on regional womens museums. The bill also specifically prohibits the use of federal funding for said museum. So, once again, a totally meaningless bill passed by a congress with their heads firmly planted in their asses.

If that is true, why did they arrive at a decision to sell land near the Smithsonian Museum, to the National Women's History Museum ?
