The open enrollment period for the second year of Obamacare began last month.

What a difference a year makes!

It's basically been a non-event, working very smoothly despite some pretty high volume.

It's been so successful it's barely registered a blip on the radar of the angst-ridden pants-shitters on the fringe right here, who hew to the maxim "If you can't find something negative to say, don't say it".

I enrolled in a plan two days ago. I am waiting to hear from Blue Cross.

I didn't have to enroll in the marketplace but did because I found a better price than I could get from a direct purchase.

Took all of ten-fifteen mins to enroll. Went flawlessly.

And my premiums went down a little. AJ will come along to call me a parasite and claim he is paying for my insurance. (Even though it's me who writes the monthly check.)

I'm a classic case of the one who got hosed in this deal honestly. Nearly 200% increase in my costs.

I had a high deductible PPO that I was getting a good deal on with Aetna.

I can tell you my costs have gone from 165 a month to well over 400.

$165 A MONTH?

Wow. That's incredible. How high was your deductible?

Catastrophic care in effect. I can afford the deductible.

Thats the thing those who can afford it do, did....

I had something like that once upon a time. Didn't go to the doctor much so it worked out fine.

Reality is weird creature.

The only times I needed medical help was in the last 35 years when I had 100% coverage by a particular employer.

And it didn't matter, because it was for work related injuries that were paid for by workman's compensation.

My premiums last year were slightly higher than what I had previously, but my new policy covered some tests and procedures that I had to pay for out of pocket with the old plan, so I actualy came out ahead.

This year, my premiums dropped enough that I was able to add dental and still pay less than last year.
