Again I really want to see these numbers. Your saying they include retirees. Does it also include children?

As for the final a one to one ratio is only a problem for our egos and an inability to figure out how to distribute wealth and goods. We could probably handle a one to two (or even more radical) ratio.

We do not need more citizens -- nor do we need fewer citizens. It's not about that, it's about people who've decided they want to live here. We don't need them*, but we have plenty of room for them. (The U.S., not counting Alaska, has roughly the same land area as Europe, not counting Russia -- but only 1/3 the population. By no means is this country overpopulated, nor will it be in your lifetime or mine.)

Now, I'll admit there is an ugly side to this: The establishment/bizcon wing of the GOP wants immigration reform mainly so their donors can hire cheap immigrant labor, which potentially depresses native-born Americans' wages by competition. So? We're only talking about the lowest-paid jobs anyway; the answer to that is to raise the minimum wage to a living wage, make sure it applies to all jobs including agricultural, and really enforce it.

* I'm talking about those who want in. Those already here illegally are already part of our economy to the extent that they can't all be deported without massive economic disruption; in that sense, we do need them
