The Official Author's Hangout 2014 Winter Holidays Contest Support Thread

I gave up. I simply don't have any desire to write at the moment.

I did come up with several good ideas that have been filed away for next year, though.

I've finished my self-imposed sabbatical, while I tried to clean up a few issues in my life. Only my second posting since the first week of January. First story since June's FAWC entry.

Submitted late last night, I hope it goes up with this night's work.

It's great to be writing again. Good luck to everyone.

Oh, there's just something about a panda bear in a cowboy hat. Glad you're back. Now stay here!

;)

That's unfortunate. I'm a fan of the RR tales. They're fun. (Dark isn't my cup of tea. I don't enjoy fantasy. That's probably a character flaw.)

It's nice to see you are back. I have been periodically checking your profile for new stuff. Can't wait to read your entry.

I just submitted my second entry. Let's hope it does better than the first. It's a romance with a small element of BDSM that I submitted in EC.

Good luck everyone!

The trolls are out in force this weekend. I posted a non-contest story this morning that had a good score until i put a link in my signature here in the AH.

Probably just my legion of personal trolls.

http://www.literotica.com/s/all-she-wants-for-christmas-2 was a feel good story that made me tear up a bit.

Spoiler:
I loved the beginning and end - I had a little grit in my eyes and it was well-written. Just found the anal in the middle a little...ummm, out of place? Didn't seem to fit the tone of the rest of the story.

Wow, that's a hot one, I don't usually enjoy Mature but that was well done.

http://www.literotica.com/s/playing-it-cool was a well told and cute story I enjoyed reading

Ooh, that's one of mine. Glad you enjoyed it. :)

I have tried to read them all and vote because I hope others are reading mine and voting. Even the ones in catagories which aren't my cup of tea.

I don't read some categories either, I browse/click if I like the title and back out sharpish if it's something I don't read. I've just found this one...

http://www.literotica.com/s/mister-tumbles-christmas

OMFG! Someone's written a story about Mister Tumble??? Is NOTHING sacred???:eek::D

I can understand why mine is doing so poorly. It's depressing as hell.

I found it very moving, and I've read it a couple of times, but I don't know what to rate it so I haven't voted. Spoiler: I supposed Christmas stories are mostly uplifting, and it's difficult when there is no resolution. It's quite a short piece too.

That's why I never link anything in my sig. I make them have t take the minute to find the story:rolleyes:

I have often wondered if the dedicated trolls don't fav their target of choice to make the bombing easier.

Anybody noticed a surge in public comments recently?

PCs have been in serious decline for a while, but all of the sudden I'm getting a bunch of comments on old stories on a regular basis.

I've been getting comments on stories even I've forgotten, yes. One yesterday was by someone who obviously hadn't read the comments already on the story before posting theirs.

Mine have been positive for the most part. Just strange seeing a shift like this after such a long steady trend of decline.

I had two on a three year old story yesterday and a few others on stories that are past their prime so to speak.

Good to see the readers commenting more often and rewarding people's efforts.

Mine have been positive too (I generally only get hate mail in comments once every six months and I recently got my quota of that)--it just surprises me to get a comment and/or a story favorite vote now and again on an old story--and not one I now think was particularly memorable.

That would be a treat! Good for you.

That's why the feedback forum is a good feature. If someone comments it can lead others to the story.

I noticed the same thing and was wondering if there was a problem with the comment feature.

I posted a new story and there was a flood of comments on old stories and a few on the new one. Maybe i need to post a story more often.

Judging by the number of entries, it seems like Christmas has become the unofficial Incest holiday on lit lol. It is family time I guess.

It will be interesting to see how many of the April Fool stories contain twin brothers or sisters swapping places.

What I'm noticing is a sudden spate of nitpicky and jabbing comments by Anonymous that has never happened to me before that seem sort of orchestrated from "somewhere" and seem designed to attack presumed weak spots--unspecified "proofreading" mistakes, the reality of medical dangers of certain fetish practices, and anal retentiveness on use of fantasy. One of them even challenged me to delete it because I "only leave the good comments up." As usual, of course, I just left that one (and the others) up. :D

I suppose I should have expected this sort of harassment for years, but, interestingly enough, it only really is happening recently. Hmmmmm.

Not many more comments, but some of my older stories are getting bombed in conjunction with my newer ones.

Anyway, I've id'd the probable winner and am very, very surprised - I don't understand the high score at all - but hey ho. Or 'ho ho ho'.

Gonna step back from this place now as I have no interest in politicking.

You went and made me curious. I just brought up every story in the contest, and I'm not seeing it.

There are a couple that are leading the pack, but there are at least a half dozen that are right on their heels. With none of the sweeps having run, stories a tier down from that in score could very well be buried in bombs that will vanish, vaulting them up to the top in the end.

My first story on the site was submitted just over two months ago and I've had each of those attacks (except accusing me of deleting comments) without attracting any designated trolls of my own that I am aware.
I'm fascinated by the pick and choose method of suspension of disbelief: one anon had no problem with Santa bragging about his sexual exploits to a drinking group including an Old Testament Judge, a character from a Sondheim musical and a Greek Demigod, but could not accept that a small human female could weigh 90 pounds.
He also could not enjoy the one-page story because he was too worried about the impossibly light girl having her circulation cut off by being partly suspended by her stockings for ten minutes. (Seems to tangentially cover both "the reality of medical dangers of certain fetish practices, and anal retentiveness on use of fantasy")

Based on what I've seen here on the AH aimed your way (and sometimes purposefully asked for, it appears to me), I would be surprised if your stories didn't get the occasional rash of negative comments too, SR. It's good to know those kinds of comments are still unusual enough to be worthy of notice, even with the recent uptick.

Concerning action on old stories, if I find a contest entry that intrigues me, I dig into the author's backlist. Sometimes I'm surprised by what great work they were doing ten years ago, sometimes I marvel at the progress they have made. I like to leave comments on old stories as it stirs the pot of what readers might see.

Good point on suspension of reality and personal taste. I had someone blast an incest story of mine for being sick, then when I clicked his name saw he has a ton of non human stories about centaurs and other animals fucking people. Personally if push came to shove at least a family member is human...

Like Stella Omega says, "My kink is okay, your kink is okay, his...."

But I think we're all guilty of that. There are a lot of premises I see that are far fetched, but I can roll with them, but others make my eyes roll. But I don't comment on them, when I see it going somewhere that's seems unappealing to me I wander off.

But trolling comments and one bombs are getting more frequent. I usually see them in bursts, then they go away, but I've seen some consistent crap lately, especially in private feedback.

I've gotten some scathing ones in the past week and on all categories, usually its incest trolls, but I've gotten them from my contest story(lesbian) and mature, group...

I guess Santa troll is spreading some holiday cheer.

But I should call out someone and give props. One blistering e-mail...was not anonymous! Even said "Feel free to argue these points if you wish, but please don't think too hard or you will hurt yourself."

Credit where its due, the troll had more stones than most.

Well look at that, make a post and get a bomb.

Mister troll is certainly lurking on these boards. I know, must be scouries.

But they're part of this forum for sure.

Pretty sad to just run up and down the board and contest list all day sniping at people's stories.
