Are you who you think you are?

Politically, that is. There seems to be a vogue for fresh political threads at the moment, for reasons I cannot possibly conceive...;) Yet most seem to be as predictable as usual, with those on 'both sides' lining up to denounce each other.

Politics, however, is more than two sided. And far more than conservative/liberal. What about fascists, crypto-fascists, anarchists, anarcho-syndicalists, Trotskyists...the list goes on? Why can we accept that sexuality is an infinite spectrum, but when it comes to politics so many of us revert to a tired, binary analysis?

To that end, and in the classical tradition of knowing one's self, I would be fascinated to see what results we all get, but perhaps particularly our most well-known political posters, on the Political Compass test. It is detailed and thoughtful, which means it does take some time. But it might give everyone a fresh insight into more precisely where people are coming from - and perhaps even an insight into ourselves. Is BS to the right of Pinochet? How close, politically speaking, are RobdownSouth and Ghandi?

Not to be coy, I just took the test again myself - my own result here.

Pretty much Ghandi. A bit to the right of him.
Economic Left/Right: -3.12
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -4.77

I'm a fiscal conservative and a libertarian. I scored right where I expected. This has always been an interesting test to give to those who are strongly political. It's so surprising for people when they don't end up a staunch democrat or republican like they think.

Commie!

I do really want to see the results of some of the gee bee's most voracious political posters, and the rest of the lot, too.

I scored as expected. I consider myself a right leaning libertarian, socially liberal and fiscally conservative.

ETA: I didn't notice any historically significant folks near my score. Did I miss something?

Fascist!

:p

And that's the other interesting point - will anyone be surprised by their score? Or that of others?

JtohisPB, you can click somewhere on the site for historical figures. Can't find it right now but I've done it before.

I think my rating, which was unexpected, reflects my UK nationality. I considered many of the questions to be irrelevant since they were based on US issues. I would have answered 'Don't know' or 'Don't care' to at least a third of them.

That's exactly it - I've done this with so many knee-jerk Conservative voters here who all end up being surprised that when it comes to actual ideological questions they are often more left-wing than they think. Though I'd be willing to bet if Miles and Vetteman, etc do accidentally find themselves closer to Castro than Thatcher they will go back and do it again until they get the right result.

I place almost exactly at the middle of the graph. Libertarian.

But I'm really a Fascist. My years in Spain, under fascist rule, were my best years. Cops should summarily shoot leftist assclowns.

Interesting - I'm British too, and I thought they did as good a job as possible of being culturally neutral. Was it the stuff on religion and abortion?

Strange result for me ,it puts me in the libertarian left .
Most of my friends think I am far right .

Do you mean you answered wrongly? Or that your own self-perception doesn't actually fit with what you really believe?

Also, of course, I suspect fascism would be way too close to big state interventionism for your liking...

And again, isn't that interesting? What do you think might be the cause of the disparity?

I think it might be but we don't know how the algorithm works.

I have completed similar and longer studies before, based on British norms, and my results were very different.

I always answer honestly, and always score at the center. You don't understand how fascism works IRL. Franco allowed plenty of liberties still not common in America, what he didn't allow was criminal acts against people, a female could walk any street late at night or sell her body, tho she couldn't sell her body on the street or act lewd on the street. There were safe places for sex, guarded by the state police.

Most of the questions were loaded but there was a large pool so I guess it got me about right, I mostly agree with the assessment of my political compass. clickity

This makes no sense. Some of the questions are flat out stupid. Astrology isn't political, for instance.
