Now take it easy on me, I'm not a cook but I'd like a couple of dishes to make along with the usual ones. It's only going to be Jennifer and me.

and no sweet potatoes, me no likey.

It's hard to cook for two. I cook for one, but end up freezing way too much stuff.

If you have a pan that can go from the stove top to the oven, I like to saute' some scallops (the big ones, not the little ones, then put some Alfredo sauce in and bring to a slight boil. Take off the stove and put some brie on top, then toast the brie in the oven. Serve when the brie is golden.

baked pumpkin (or almost any squash)

Cut in half and remove seeds;

Rub inside with butter and brown sugar

Bake at 350F for 30-60 minutes until tender.

Serve hot from the oven.

(PS a good dish for the Kids to fix, for those who have them.)

French-cut green beans with thinly sliced onions on bread crumbs smothered with golden mushroom soup and topped with shiitake...

Bake at 350 or so until they steam and then leave at 170 until ready to serve.

Great with Turkey. Better than nasty Turkey gravy my precious...

PRECIOUS!!!

I swear to fucking god my mouth better be better by thanksgiving. I will cut a bitch.

But yeah, just make everything and freeze what you don't eat and eat it FOREVER. Turkey sammiches for the rest of your life.

Then bake squab...

:D :D :D

I am not big on thanksgiving day sweet potatoes. They are SWEET potatoes...why are you adding sugar and marshmallows? That is not how cooking is done. Paring sweet with, Oh I dunno, sweet.

Sweet goes with sour or savory or salty.

Try this before thanksgiving. If you hate it you can throw it away and you are out no more than 5 minutes.

Take a sweet-potato put it the microwave and hit the potato button.

Take it out, it will be hotter than a potato. roll it on the counter with an oven mit squishing it a bit.

Slit it open, and or peel the skin off. Some inside will stick to the skin just basically throw away anything that isnt easy to get to.

Mash it, add butter and salt and pepper.

Nothing else.

Cooking Tips

Ladies, by all means do not cook Thanksgiving dinner while naked. You run the risk of dropping your giblets in the gravy!

Add sausage and dried cranberries to the stuffing. Saute Brussel sprouts in butter after you chop them up in a food processor.

There is no such thing as too sweet. Of COURSE sweet goes with sweet. Sweet goes with everything. There is no food that cannot be candied.

Perhaps you are right. Maybe an addition of candy will sweeten my disposition. Bought some Werther's at the store on my trip to the medium city. Lets see if that helps.

Both easy but tasty side dishes. Steamed cauliflower covered in cheese. Steamed green beans with salted almonds.

I don't clebrate Thanksgiving the way it is usually done but red cabbage is easy as well

It doesn't have to be traditional fare. Make your favorite foods, the stuff that gives you joy as soon as you bite into them.

I'd have a Dagwood sammich for Thanksgiving if I could. Or a bowl of the best miso ramen on earth, chock fulla goodness. Or a big-ass plate of steamed crab claws n' lobster tails. ;)
