All this rain brought me another creek!

That's to the south and north up mah vally....tree tops to the direct west and a steep ass mountain granite face to my back, no pic's of them because that would make for a pretty boring pic.

I don't think I'll ever go back to the city to live...

Primo corner office!

Wow. I want to work in your office. What a gorgeous view!

We don't get pines till about 5,000 feet. Rainfall difference maybe? We only have scrub oak and juniper at that level.

Gorgeous view!

Wish my view was a little more green this time of year.

Then you are traveling at too high a speed; or, being too noisy. It's much, much more than just trees. Forests are amazing.

Forests are stupid and block both wifi and cell phone signals. If trees produced wifi we'd plant them everywhere. All they make is oxygen. Which we need to breath. So everyone hates them.

And those are mostly black pines, so they don't even do that. They just drop needles and kill all the undergrowth and then in turn kill all the animals and just fuck up the biodiversity.

Primo corner office!

Yea it is!! :D;)

TY :) it is but the facilities/safety ratings on this place are TERRIBLE lol.

Most aren't pine.....mostly redwood/doug fir and some giant sequoias. We do get a spread of a couple different pine though that gets more intense the more easterly you travel. Lodgepole/Jeffery pine but I occasionally come across a Ponderosa.

I don't get it. It's just trees.

*shurg* some people just aren't mountain/forest folks. It's all good...:)

TY! Ahh if it's seasonal I bet you get one hell of a color show though.

1) not black pines

2) massive biology fail.

BotanyBoy, do you work with a bunch of females?

When the season is right. ;)

Those pics are mostly pines, man. Idk why you think they aren't. And those are the worst kind of trees. They're the ones that coal companies try to plant because they're cheap. But they don't give off oxygen during photosynthesis the way that leaved trees do, and are in fact detrimental to air quality. In addition, what I said before about fucking up the undergrowth and poisoning animals, including pets, livestock and game is completely true and I don't know why you think it isn't. Basically, the needles are waxy and pointy, meaning that if they fall on the ground, they don't decompose, because of the wax. They coat the ground and just lay there, rather than becoming mulch, which is good for the tree, because it doesn't have to share soil with the plants that WOULD have grown there. And if animals eat them, the sharp points irritate their digestive system. My shoulders have been sore to death on more than one occasion because I've had to go cut that shit down. It's in the fucking contract that they weren't supposed to plant those goddamn things. I fucking hate them. EVERYONE FUCKING HATES THEM NO ONE WANTS THEM! That's why it's in the goddamn contract. And everyone has had so much trouble out of this fucking company planting them.

Sorry if that was rambly, I had dental surgery and I am on drugs and it's kinda extra bad for me because my body is REJOICING at being in it's natural state. So somebody who speaks pillhead might need to translate this before it makes sense. Just to be completely honest. But I fucking hate pine trees, is the point. Forests in general with their filth and their insects and their sounds of EVERYTHING trying to get laid and did I say their filth because goddamn the whole thing is made of dirt. And there's nowhere to plug in your stuff unless you have one of those solar chargers, but the forest itself doesn't provide that. And something will probably eat it because the forest is full of dumbasses, both human and other critters. They eat everything you love. The deer will come and eat your garden and the wildcats will come and eat your pigs and /something/ will come and eat your chicken wire fences AND THAT'S NOT EVEN FOOD, it's fucking metal! I have no idea what's doing it because IT'S FUCKING METAL. Goats, maybe? Gnomes? I don't know but I know I dislike it.

Those pics are mostly pines, man. Idk why you think they aren't.

There is really only one pine in that pic, far left, most of NW California is not pine though, you can say it is until you're blue in the face but you will be just as wrong then as you are now.

Because spruce, fir, cedar and sequoias are not the same thing as pines. They are all distinctively different species of gymnosperm coniferous trees.

Idk why you think they aren't.

But in the real world far NW california (here is a map)
https://encrypted-tbn3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQBl9cEa5Aj4ChVXY_NPPB1URd-UnzHY-TZ9KSrpaCOcq9dTetZ

is mostly fir/sequoia/cedar ....which is not pine (which is around but is a deff minority)...gotta go across the valley and hit the Sierra Nevada mountains to find most of cali's pines.

Notice how NW california it's in a distinctively different geographic location/climate than KY....

And those are the worst kind of trees. They're the ones that coal companies try to plant because they're cheap.

Really? Coal companies are planting sequoias? Cali redwoods in KY because they are cheap...imagine that.

I never said it wasn't true...but those links don't back up what you said....they don't kill everything and fuck up the biodiversity (which is what you said). I can go take a sample of forest humus from right off the front porch and I promise you the bugs/myco/bacterial activity out there is off the fuckin' charts....exactly the way it's supposed to be.

Basically, the needles are waxy and pointy, meaning that if they fall on the ground, they don't decompose, because of the wax.

If I go take a picture of the decomposing needles/cones/wood will you stop with the biology fail?? The rain/forest will decompose the largest trees on earth given enough time.

They coat the ground and just lay there, rather than becoming mulch, which is good for the tree, because it doesn't have to share soil with the plants that WOULD have grown there. And if animals eat them, the sharp points irritate their digestive system.

They become compost I assure you....it's a far more drawn out process compared to leaves from a deciduous tree but given enough time everything organic breaks down. Pines and all their bio trash included...no exceptions.

You still don't realize I live like 2500 miles away in a completely different climate with totally different organisms than what you have in Appalachia/Ohio river valley do you?

Great pics!

How far is the drive to the nearest reasonably sized town?

Bot, the word "most" exists for a reason. I know pines aren't the ONLY tree in that picture. But there are a LOT of them.

And, I'm not going to argue with you about this because you're apparently a botonist and therefore know better and just wanna troll like you do. I shouldn't have said anything because I was just going to be negative. This is my apology.

I have just NEVER understood people enjoying fucking trees and shit. Like they've never seen a goddamn tree before. When we used to go to my aunt's every summer, 10 minutes outside of Gatlinburg, people would stop and stare at the fucking trees. Like there wasn't a goddamn theme park 10 minutes away. It's fucked up. You can see that shit literally any time you go outside.

Look, here's how you get to my house! Here's some fucking trees.

Thanks! I'll be adding more when I run across cool shit...unfortunately I'll be working inside/about the house the next few days.

About 50min.....but it's a pretty sweet drive so I don't mind.

But we have a small little town here with juuuuuust enough convenience I really only go to the city like every other week for a good grocery run. The occasional special order whutevaz or concert/show will drag me down there but it's usually a nice little daycation. Gets me a city fix and keeps me appreciative of living out where I can do whatever the fuck I want and no one gives a shit. :D

Logging co says approximately 4%....and I got some pretty beastly acreage so it's not a piddly sample size. 4% isn't a lot of anything.

I'm not trying to troll you man...I'm trying to correct you. There aren't a lot of pines in coastal northern california....it's spruce/fir/sequoia-ville.

The closer to the coast you are the more and larger the sequoias get (moar rain) and they are cousins of pines but still quite different. The further inland and more elevation you get the more spruce/fir you see...occasional pine/hemlock/poor struggling oak that made it up in a bear turd and is hating life, that's where I'm at. And if you head towards shasta/redding/weed then you end up getting into moar pine...across the valley toward Nevada? Mostly pine.

It's like comparing a peach tree to a maple to a walnut...they are deciduous trees all pretty different beyond that connection.

Live in the noisy/rude as fuck/hostile concrete jungle of a major metro area for 20 years, nothing will make you appreciate the serenity and beauty of the forest/mountains/beach/rolling hills/high plains and even the open desert/tundra (whatever natural setting floats your tits) more.

Or you just might be what is known as a "city slicker" and love the metro rat race more than anything and be a great little urban/suburban dweller. Nothing wrong with it....I did it most of my life.

This thread is really just my way sharing my happiness about escaping the metro rat race...I very much feel like "I made it out of there!!" no longer waking up in the bay area. No traffic...no sirens...no pimps beating hookers...no shootings/assaults in the street down below...no heroine needles in the street...no traffic even.

I traded that in for bears wrecking the shed to eat a gas can....hobo spiders and squirrels raising a ruckus on the roof at the crack of dawn, the occasional wild/natural kill for food, hard well water wrecking my appliances for fluoride/chlorine poison in my water and I consider it an upgrade. Personal opinion, nothing more.

I'm trying not to gloat but I kinda like where I'm living...so it might seem as such, oh well..

WEST COAST!!

THEY'RE FUCKING EVERYWHERE!

I lived in Hopkinsville for a few years...I thought the forests there were lovely...esp in the spring/fall...just like the sugar maples of the NE, aspen stands in the Rockies and cypress bogs in the SE....they all have their own magic if you can/want to tune into it. Maybe you're just not that into nature or this particular aspect of it. It's ok....not everyone is. Some folks like tropical over alpine, metro of rural, desert over rainy wetlands. Redheads over brunets...etc.

Point is I don't think less of you for it....but I cant' really explain it either, I'm from the PNW and I'm currently really digging the far NW corner of CA aspect of it.

I see the new version of the Matrix has been installed.

Whoa.

See, I LOVED the city. I fucking hate it here. You can't walk anywhere. You may get eaten. Everyone is racist and stupid. You can't rent things. Your water doesn't always work and is full of coal slurry. It's filthy, like I mentioned before. The air quality is shit. Everything is shit. I can't believe that anyone would voluntarily live in the woods.

Everything is extra expensive too, because they know how hard it is to get shit. Satelite internet, cell phones that won't work at your house, basically any connection to reality is going to be about 3x the price of what it is in civilization. Insurance is fucking fucked.

Cops aren't gonna hike through the woods so if shit goes down you better be able to fucking handle it yourself. Pizza guy not gonna hike through the woods so if you want pizza you better fucking handle it yourself. Fed Ex nor any other courier is willing to hike through the woods so you better just never want anything that isn't from a local shop, meaning Wal-Mart because that's literally all there is.

God Damn I want to move so fucking bad, I hate it so much here I'm on 4 different kinds of antidepressants. Just gotta keep saving. Gotta keep building up money. Gotta be solution oriented.

I drove through your neck of the woods two summers ago. Beautiful spot on the Earth.

Stayed in Mendocino, which depressed me. Seemed like a ghost town inhabited by ghosts of hippies. And there was no Gene Clark or Doug Sahm on the dive bar juke box.

That sucks....Fed Ex delivers to the post office....you can get a car delivered there.

I make the best pizza's EVER...maybe I'm just so full of myself I have to live in the sticks so my ego doesn't beat up SF's.

Thank you =) I'm a fan myself.

Some towns are hit and miss. Judging by what you said I'm guessing it was Laytonville? There are a few towns around like that.

But there are some pretty lively ones that are growing too.....

It was the town of Mendocino. Right on the coast.

I stopped in a town up in the hills, as I headed down toward Napa Valley, that was fantastic. Made me want to spend the summer.

Right on.....yea Mendocino as a county is pretty cool with some cool towns but it's got some serious WTF? spots too. I could have easily set up down there, deff some nice places there except a LOT of heat coming down on that particular county the past few years.

Ain't nobody got time for that...
