because of Texas voting law:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/11/07/texas-voter-id_n_6117742.html?ncid=txtlnkusaolp00000592

Another Texan almost couldn't vote because of the Texas poll tax on voter ID but the police ignored the law and gave her the money.

While the Huffington Post is as liberal as they come, the stories are real and corroborated. I think the last two paragraphs of the article say it best:

“The new voter ID laws are ridiculous,” said Lauw, who said she has been politically active her whole life. Though she once served as vice president of a local Republican women’s club, she now considers herself a liberal.

“Back then, I really was a Republican," Lauw told HuffPost. "But they weren’t like they are now.”

Too fucking bad.

Old people should not be allowed to vote.

Fuck them.

They had their chance.

I wouldn't worry about it while the 84 year old was out of it on their medication probably some good liberal nursing home worker filled out an absentee ballot for them and voted in their behalf for the correct candidates so I'm sure it's just fine.

While they were at at the nursing home workers probably went ahead and voted for the 5 or 6 people that died this year in their home as well.

Why do I have the sneaking suspicion that RacistDowSouth is not going to show up and call this anecdata?

The article itself is propaganda posing as news.

The Texas Voter ID act was passed in 2011, but she waits to the last minute to get her shit together???? It also blows the hell out of her 'politically aware and active' back story.

And exactly how does the "I used to be a republican but now I'm a liberal" contribute anything of value to the story?

An article in keeping with the high standards at Puff-Ho.

If someone has the presence of mind up until the age of 84 to not be a liberal and then suddenly becomes a liberal that in and of itself is prima facie evidence of dementia making them unfit to vote.

I'm thinking that the intention of the writer was to convey that she was a republican until this happened and she's so damn mad she switched to liberal. In effect saying, "See there you mean, nasty, republicans. You lost a voter." I can see all the republicans in Austin petitioning the governor for a special session to overturn the law.

What about a citizen not being able to vote? Did that point get lost in the smoke??

Not being able to vote?

She apparently was able to reach out to the Huffington Post but could not do so until after the election. Was she unable to speak for the full two years between the elections in order to reach out to someone who could have given her a ride the MVD or brought an election official to her or whatever the hell she needs to vote?

I am quite sure that every single invalid in the state of Texas was not disenfranchised.

I ended up not being able to vote in 2008 the reason I wasn't able to vote was because I worked 4 hours from my voting place and worked the day of the election could not get it off and was too late to get my absentee ballot in whose fault was that was that anyone's fault but mine?

Why don't we write a story about the voter that waited until the day after voter registration was closed and then cried about being disenfranchised?

She had two years to get her shit together and she didn't. Too bad.

where are the stories about Abbott's name LEFT off the ballot!

The story just reeks of bullshit. You got a reporter telling a story where they quote the daughter living in liberal Austin quoting the mother. This mother is lucid be can't be interviewed directly by the reporter?

If this was a piece advocating changes for people whose drivers licenses have been retired that would be one thing this is just Liberal apologist wank fodder.

I suspect that the daughter is just pissed off that she wasn't able to vote her moms ballot for her like she normally does. Anybody verified that mom is still alive?

Hi, my name is kb, I just moved to Houston and I'd like to get a driver's license and register to vote.

OK, I need your old state's driver's license, your passport, your birth certificate, proof of residency and proof of insurance and your social security card.

Ok, here's my old driver's license.

The name on this is kC.

I got a divorce, that's why I moved back to Texas.

I'll need a notarized copy of the divorce.

Ok, I have that here.

The divorce has the name kC on it. I'll need the court papers you filed to change back to your maiden name.

I didn't file papers, my old state didn't require them. I just dropped his name with the divorce.

OH, then I can't give you ID.

OK then, here's my passport.

Your passport has the name kC on it too, I'll need the paper you filed to change your name back to kb.

I already told you, my old state didn't require that. I do have my birth certificate.

That has the name kB on it, but everything else says, "kC", you need to bring me the . . .

Never mind.

State of Texas ID cards issued by the Department of Public Safety cost $16...

...$6 if the individual is 60 or older.

$$ is a propaganda issue...

...as is a story about an individual who lives in a nursing home where registering to vote is easily facilitated.

On the other partisan side of the same socialist coin...

...it's a gas reading fascist conservatives now championing former Stasi-esque Show me your papers! tactics.

No, it's not a propaganda issue. Charging for ID to vote is a violation of the constitution. Period.

She had her chance to go out, earn some cash, and BUY her ID so that she could vote in a public election.

Fuck off. A nominal fee for your ID which you use for everything else is nothing like the amounts that were charged for a poll tax. Adjusted for inflation this is less than nothing.

If Democrats are willing to pay $15 per vote in Mississippi I'm sure Democrats in Tejas are willing to pay $6 per ID.
