A tempting Holiday story keeps whispering in my ear as I'm trying to do actual paid work and write my NaNo novel. Shush, you!

Take some quick notes and save it for later. I do that all the time. I have pages of notes.

Fucking hell, some ass opened the chicken coop while we were gone and broke one of the 2x4's of the doorframe to try and wedge the door open so they could tempt the chickens out.

Rude! Are your chickens ok? Did they stay put? A friend of mine just got some silkies and they are so cute.

Yeah the chickens are fine, it's the time of year people are looking for roosters to train for cock fights. We had decided to not keep a rooster over winter this year and looks like that was a good move. We've mostly got Partridge Rocks, a couple of Brown Leghorns, and a random Silver Wyandotte.

Interesting day yesterday. We drove from our Sierra Nevada mountain hamlet down to the big city of Stockton CA for various reasons. After attending those, we stopped at the local CostCo for a bit of the old shopping thing. We emerged from the spree -- and our car was somewhat wrecked in the parking lot. (Third time we've been hit this year.) A confused 85-year-old guy had slammed into our Nissan. We were still drivable; his Lexus and the Ford he slammed us into weren't. While we were exchanging numbers and photos, sirens approached from several directions. A high-speed pursuit zipped through the parking lot about 200 feet away, a half-dozen or more cop cars chasing a pickup, with choppers overhead and everything. We expected a shootout at any moment. Welcome to Stockton.

Followup: We read the news later. Two guys in a remote town stole a water heater from a Home Depot store. They were seen. One guy ran and was caught. The other stole a pickup with a trailer hooked to it and led cops on the high-speed chase down freeways and city streets and into Stockton, right past us at CostCo. He was caught and the water heater was recovered. All this for a fucking WATER HEATER?!?! Yow.

Probably a couple of plot bunnies (or at least plot gerbils) here. A couple could be almost screwing in the car in front of ours when the transmited impact drives him deep inside her. Another couple (or more) could have been screwing in the trailer when the pickup+trailer were stolen, and continued during the high-speed pursuit. Something like that.

I think I need to install a notepad and pencils in the Garage where I build things.
Ask me who measured a length of dowel rod in inches, not centimeters ?

D - Ooohhh

Long Day.........A hot cup of tea, a nice long massage, and bedtime snuggles sound lovely about now.

The prospect of standing around supervising a charitable collection team is no fun in this cold weather we are currently "enjoying".
Now, where did I put my faux fur hat ?

I am pretty sure I am going to spend some quality time with Jack tomorrow. yay!

Can anyone tell me the difference between The Story Feedback Section and The Story Discussion Circle. The Former looks likes a trashcan as compared to the latter with three Mods and well-defined rules for posting in that Forum.

The Mod in Story Feedback has been absent for many years.

Being alone can be less lonely than being with another person at times.

Ah; some work today. I have to put up a couple of speakers (for my Ham radios) on the wall, and do some cabling. This is all good because it is raining (cold, but gentle).
:)

I once had to deal with the consequences of an injury caused by dual measurement:

Contractors were building a large manhole chamber where cables would split and connect. The drawings and specifications were in Imperial measurement but the materials were supplied in metric sizes. The chamber was about six feet deep and eight feet square.

Normally that wouldn't be a problem but this time it was.

They constructed the shuttering for the reinforced concrete walls and floor in Imperial units, and the concrete cap was also made in Imperial size.

But the reinforcing bars in the cap were supplied in metric lengths. The chamber and cap had been made slightly oversize in Imperial units, to the next largest inch. The reinforcing bars had been supplied, pre-cut, in metric sizes, to the next smaller centimeter.

When the heavy cap was being lifted and positioned by crane, a workman was inside the chamber directing the crane driver. He shouldn't have been inside. That was a breach of the safety instructions. It shouldn't have mattered but for the difference in measurements.

When the cap was lowered into its final position and the weight was taken by the side walls of the chamber, an edge broke off and the cap tilted into the chamber, hitting the workman and breaking his shoulder.

The cause?

The slightly undersized metric reinforcing bars were shorter than the distance between the slightly oversized Imperial chamber. One edge of the cap had no reinforcing bars for the critical overlap.

That reminds me of the Builder's tale

Mr Penn and I went out today and ... got smart phones. This should be interesting. Especially because we went with a different carrier and got new phone numbers. I'm sure I'll forget to change that somewhere.
