How about a story about these two college students who witness a crime and are put into the witness protection program. They are posing as exchange students and siblings but in reality have no blood connection at all. Before they were relocated they could have either just hardly know one another, good friends, or even best of friends but nothing romantic. After the relocation they are placed as high school students, even though they are in their early 20s. They've been hidden for some time and eventually get romantic. One day the family or someone from the school or town catch them having sex. They get surprised enough they forget to pull out and she ends up pregnant.

Corrections and other stuff. It wouldn't have to be Witness Protection but some other program. I just didn't know what other name to call it. I've asked before on other sites if anyone would be interested in writing my story ideas. I would go into great details and in response people just say if I'm willing to go into that kind of detail to just do the story myself. It doesn't matter who is paying for the placement or if the kids just go on the run and find the money on the way. And to keep the family they're placed with safe maybe someone used a magic spell to change their faces or maybe they're placed on a school on mars or whatever. I had really hoped that someone on this site would be able to use their imagination and come up with some of the details. It doesn't matter if they add magical elements to it. Heck they could do like in the movie Sleeping Beauty and have the two students taken some place else. The family could either be dirt poor or filthy rich. Or they could go to a different country.

PRO: Placement in WPP has many possibilities.

CONS: The relocation you propose doesn't sound likely. Why place them as sibs in high school? IF the program kept them together, they'd more likely be placed as a couple with one or more jobs.

If they were less-than-stellar college students, WPP might buy them a gas station / minimart to run. If they were adequate business majors, they might get a small insurance agency. Now the dynamic is not that they're supposed siblings, but a non-romantic couple forced together, and looking for separate loves. They must balance 1) appearing to be married, 2) looking like cheaters because they're each fucking around, and 3) trying to stay hidden from the mob whose crime(s) they witnessed. If they survive, the story could be a romance.

I could see this premise in the other direction as well, with both characters starting off as real-life siblings placed into witness protection for whatever reason. There they are in a new town, the only two people who know the truth about one another, which would push them closer even if they weren't especially close before. That level of intimacy could develop into romance. The thrill for them, besides the incest, would be that no one around them knows they're siblings and they take great delight in public displays of affection. This could work up to pregnancy, too.

As an added twist, say the reason they're in protection evaporates. The mob boss in question gets killed and there's no one out to kill them anymore. Then they could return to their old lives saddled with their intimate relationship, having to deal with it. Personally, I'd end the story, or the series, with them still in protection, having dealt with the angst of their illicit affair and happy with what they now have.

To go with your original idea, I agree that there really wouldn't be a reason for witness protection to place non-related people together posing as brother and sister. They could, however, be placed as a couple but one of them gets confused about the cover story and blurts "he's my brother," or "she's my sister" when trying to explain. Then they'd have to deal with this unintended alteration to their cover story and have to deal with the fall-out of any romance that ensues.

Good luck with the story, I'll look forward to reading it!

The purpose for the relocation as high school students would be. That they're trying to make it harder for the people to find the two. They figure that since the two students were super smart that they wouldn't want to be put into anything school wise that is less than what they had. They criminals would also be looking for people around the age of the college students.

If you want an example of older people being placed undercover as someone younger than what they are just look at the movie 21 Jump Street. The too obviously adult police officers are placed in high school as teens.

I like your ideas. If they were to go the way of having two unrelated people posing as relative maybe either their parents had enough influence to have them kept together and could only think of them being siblings. Or someone made a mistake someplace in registering the paper work and had accidentally said they were siblings. But your idea works well. I had thought of the sibling angle on this site and other sites people don't seem to like the actual incest thing in my ideas.

I didn't see the movie. Were the cops/students provided home life and family for cover? Also, WPP is long-term and undercover ops ain't. What does WPP do for the 'kids' after they finish HS?

That's a problem with the placing-as-HS-students scenario: backstory and support. Is WPP paying for pretend parents for the 'students'? And would not those 'parents' be as susceptible to danger as the protectees? I'm sorry, the logistics just don't work, except in a total fuck-reality fantasy.

My take on WPP or any such govt program is that it'll be as cheap as possible with 'clients'. So they'll get a history, a home, and work, but they'll have to support themselves. No extra bucks for fake 'parents', sorry.

A little incest goes a long way on LIT. :D

It would probably make an interesting story, but I don't think Witness Protection works this way. They locate for life, not overaged students for a stretch in high school. Possibly more believable as something outside the Witness Protection program to keep them hidden for a very short time in an unexpected place (although then it probably would have to be a private high school. I can't see a public high school willingly cooperating with this).

The school wouldn't have to know. Maybe they've been told the story that the rest of the town thinks. That they're exchange students or something. It wouldn't have to be witness protection. Maybe it's done by the American government or maybe one of the witnesses is royalty or even an alien or something.

Oh, yes, if it was a government program and a public school, the school most definitely would have to know. Do you have any idea what shit would hit the fan if a public school (and the public) found out a government entity injected a couple of people hiding from hit men in a public school? You can certainly write it up as a story--and it might be an interesting one. But believable? No.

Have you ever seen the movie Men In Black with Will Smith? J asked what part of the government the MIB was part of. K said something like they weren't part of it or something. And they still kept the aliens secret and even gave the aliens human identities. Or Independence Day part of the Presidents staff were keeping Area 51 and aliens a secret from the President himself. Or even and I shudder to think this how the vampires in the twilight series were able to move around and incorporate themselves into society. Or any Spy movie that someone was able to pass off as someone else in some kind of group setting.

Well, OK. You're talking fantasy and I was talking reality. You weren't describing a sci-fi alien story in your scenario. I guess if you can't take reality into account, there's no reason to consider believability.

A few little known facts about WPP (Wit Sec) as teh US Marshals who run the program call it. Learned from my Cousin who is federal law enforcement

Rarely are single people relocated. They usually take immediate family with them since retaliation could come against parents or siblings

Names are changed but not drastically. Usually you keep the same initials.

All assetts (cars, houses, etc...) are signed over to the Marshals service who provide similar valued items in the new location

Career may or may not change depending on different factors.

They find you a job and provide cash for up to two years after that you are expected to be self sufficient

Unrelated witnesses to the same crime, or for the same trial will never be hidden in the same town. If the suspect or his posse find one, they find both.

Witnesses are not allowed to reveal they are in witsec and the agent handling the case is always introduced as a friend from school.

If their is even a suspected breach of security you are relocated.

You are not told where you are going to be living until you get there.

All your emails phone calls and social media is monitored once you are in wit sec

repeated violations of the rules or continued criminal behavior can cause you to be removed from the program. But you keep the new name and home.

Contray to popualr belief Sammy the Bull Gravano never went into wit sec

You are not 100% cut off from family and friends, but all communications are strictly controlled and in some cases censored

I was just trying to list different things. It wouldn't have to be based in fantasy it could though but it could also be mostly or totally in reality. Most of my story ideas i post people could choose if it's in reality or whatever kind of world like sci fi or fantasy or whatever that the author would like.

The farce version: WITLESS PROTECTION. Break all the WitSec rules. Eschew reality. Everybody -- witnesses, marshals, gunsels -- are incompetent and horny. (Well, that might not be so unreal. :D) Go for the fun, preferably with one or more Scooby-Doo-type mad chase furores. Insert disclaimer that it's not serious, then run with it.
