Charleston County School District released a statement Tuesday revealing, “There was an allegation related to inappropriate postgame celebrations by the Academic Magnet High School (AMHS) football team. An investigation was conducted and, as a result of the investigation, the head football coach will no longer be serving as a coach for Charleston County School District.”

The celebration in question reportedly involves players smashing a watermelon after the game. The act became a postgame ritual of sorts as Academic Magnet went on a six-game winning streak this season.

Mike Miller, a Charleston County School Board member, reportedly told Live 5 News that a parent from an opposing school came to him and complained about the watermelon act and that the kids were making monkey sounds. [...]

Former Academic Magnet football player Harry Griffin released a statement Tuesday voicing his opinion in the firing. Griffin played for Walpole from 2009-12.

In the statement, Griffin says, “Coach Walpole was fired because his team had a harmless tradition that was made to seem prejudice. … They had a post-game ritual of smashing a watermelon and eating it after every victory. A parent on an opposing team deemed this act as racist and the school board decided to interrogate the players. These high school athletes were forced into a room one by one and questioned about their “racist” acts. Since when is eating watermelon racist? Since when does a school board have the right to interrogate students without notifying their parents? The way this situation has been handled can only be described as despicable.”

Mass School Teaching Kids “There Is No God But Allah”…

Screen shot 2014-10-22 at 9.25.28 AM

Shockingly, parents have a problem with this. Note: I lived in Revere a few years ago and it is not your stereotypical lib elitist Mass city.

REVERE, Mass. (WHDH) – Some parents in Revere were angry when they learned students were being taught about Islam and the Muslim religion.

“No religion should be taught at school. In their paper it says Allah is their only God. That’s insulting to me as a Christian who believes in just Jesus only,” said Anthony Giannino.

A section of the textbook describing the beliefs of Muslims says, “I bear witness that there is no God but Allah.”

Giannino immediately pulled his son out of the classroom.

“We don’t believe in Allah. I don’t believe in my son learning about this here,” he said. “If my son was from another country and came here, he would have been catered to. But where he’s not being catered to, they give him an F.”

The superintendent of Revere Public Schools wrote the parents a letter explaining that it is simply part of the history in that section of the curriculum, and stated, “I want to be very clear that no religion is taught with the purpose of converting students to that religion…”

Other parents said they had no issue with the assignment.

“What is Muslim about, what is Christianity about. That’s what I teach at home. Everybody should respect everybody else’s religion,” said Idalia Garcia.

“When you’re talking about a specific region in the world, there’s going to be traditions and there’s gonna be religions that children should learn about,” said Ovidio Raffa.

Atheist Group Plans To Hand Out An Illustration Of A Human Bible Sexually Assaulting A Woman At FL Public Schools…

Yet if someone were to hand out a Bible at a public school all hell would break lose.

Via CNS News:

(CNSNews.com) – The Freedom From Religion Foundation, an atheist group, is planning to hand out in several Florida public high schools a pamphlet that features an illustration on its cover depicting a humanized Bible sexually assaulting a young woman.

The pamphlet is entitled: “An X-Rated Book: Sex and Obscenity in the Bible.”

The front cover of the small purple booklet is illustrated with a cartoon Bible–which has arms, legs, face and drooling mouth–sexually assaulting a screaming woman as she tries to escape its grasp.

According to a news release posted on its website, FFRF plans to distribute the pamphlet, along with several other brochures and a few books, in 11 public high schools in Orange County, Florida, in January. Orange County is in central part of the state and includes the city of Orlando.

The materials will be available at the high schools of the Orange County Public Schools (OCPS) on National Religious Freedom Day, which is Jan. 16. Each year, on this day, the OCPS allows outside religious groups to set up a table with pre-approved literature—including Bibles–that students can take if they choose.

Bananas

A New Jersey high school has been exonerated of any racist intent after its football team used a banana to plug a hole in the door between its locker room and that of a majority-black visiting team. But, this being America in the 21st century, the school is being punished nevertheless.

The story goes back to last year. Before one game, the Summit High School team needed to plug the gap caused by a missing doorknob, and someone came up with a banana. The team won the game, and eventually the league championship, and the banana became a superstition. In this year’s opener, the opponent was North Plainfield, a slender majority of whose players are black. They saw the banana as a possible racial reference and complained to the authorities.

In a simpler time, the two teams’ coaches would have worked this out between them, but in Obama’s America, no grievance can be left uninvestigated. The New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association convened a special committee, which performed a thorough investigation that included six hours of testimony. Since the committee “unanimously determined there was insufficient proof that the incident was an intentional act of racial bias or harassment,” one might think that would be the end of it, along with an apology perhaps.

Not a chance. The NJSIAA ordered the two teams’ captains to meet, which seems sensible enough, but beyond that:

Second, to promote understanding, Summit High School must submit a Corrective Action Plan to the NJSIAA for review and approval. This plan should include, at a minimum, an in-service training program for the entire coaching staff focused on sensitivity to and understanding of racial bias incidents.

And third, to avoid repetition, the Summit High School athletic director must submit a certification to the NJSIAA — prior to the start of each of the next three sports seasons — certifying that he has reviewed with the school’s coaches all NJSIAA sportsmanship rules, in detail.

So a silly high-school tradition of surpassing triviality that clearly had no racial animus behind it must be expiated with large doses of the racemonger’s panacea — sensitivity training — along with lecturing all the school’s coaches, from bowling to swimming to cross country, on how to play nice.

Imagine if they had actually done something wrong.

You Won’t Find ‘Christmas’ on This School District’s Calendar Anymore

A Massachusetts school district is refusing to reverse its recent decision to change the name of its annual “Christmas Vacation” to “Holiday Break.”

The battle began September 9 when Marshfield School Committee voted 3-2 to change the calendar name, drawing the ire of some local residents who have implored officials to reverse course — a request that has been denied, according to Wicked Local.

While supporters claim that the new name is more inclusive, others fervently disagree.

Residents who are unhappy with the change were vocal at a recent committee meeting, claiming that the amendment is indicative of religious intolerance.

“By censoring our children from Christianity or any other religious belief, you are not allowing them to learn to live in a diverse setting and to respect other beliefs,” said local resident Rossanne Lopez. “Christmas is the reason for the vacation. Let’s call it what it is — Christmas Vacation.”

Another resident named Elaine Taylor — who brought a petition with 443 signatures on it calling for “Christmas” to be returned to the district’s vacation schedule — added, “It sends a message that anything Christmas is off limits.”

But while their pleas, among others, were heard during the public comment portion of the meeting, committee members didn’t respond to their request and have thus far declined to return to the previous “Christmas Vacation” terminology.

The controversial name change reportedly came after a parent emailed Marshfield Public Schools superintendent Scott Borstel and asked whether “Christmas” could be removed from the schedule

Connecticut Elementary Schools Cancel Halloween Over Fears It Could Offend People…

PC fanatics rejoice!

Newington, Conn. (WTNH) — Bah Humbug! It’s the wrong holiday, but some say the grinch came early and took Halloween from the kids at two Newington Elementary Schools. The principals at Ruth Chaffee Elementary and Anna Reynolds Elementary say leave the costumes at home.

That means 8-year-old Alyssa Montano can’t bring her pointed hat and broom to the classroom.

“What did you think when you found out you can’t celebrate Halloween at school?” we asked.

“It was stupid and weird because they shouldn’t take it away from other people,” said Alyssa.

Her mom, Lori, says she was the one to have to break the bad news to her daughter.

“She’s disappointed, very disappointed because she has been doing it all the way up to this year,” said Lori. “Now they are not doing it this year.”

Parents say they got letters from the principals stating that since not everyone celebrates Halloween, it should not be celebrated. Lori Montano says it’s taking political correctness too far.

“I think it’s stupid, it’s not fair for the kids and I mean if some people don’t want to participate, then don’t participate, but they shouldn’t take it away from all the kids,” said Lori.

ASU discourages face painting over racism concerns

•A few students painted their faces and bodies black at a “black out” football game earlier in the semester.

•Members of the ASU Black and African Coalition said the face painting was “cultural insensitivity” and “racism” rather than school spirit.

•ASU’s administration has released a memo to students in order to discourage them from using face paint at future functions.

Arizona State University students have been discouraged by administration to paint their faces at any event over concerns of perceived racism.

As previously reported by Campus Reform, members of the ASU Black and African Coalition (BAC) became outragedafter some students painted their faces black during a “black out” football game and the pictures made it to online sports news sites.

"I think the immediate consequences should be not allowing them into the event and then make them attend these events like caucuses or classroom workshops where they are made aware of why it is culturally insensitive to students who are Native American or African American or whatever race it is that they identify with or sex or whatever, because it goes either way." Tweet This

The face paint, which is part of ASU’s “Black Out” tradition where students are encouraged by the athletic department to dress in all black to cheer on the Sun Devils, was seen by BAC president Kyle Denman not as school spirit, but blatant racism.

“The historical context of blackface is that it is demeaning to the African-American culture,” Denman said. “It doesn’t show school spirit; it represents cultural insensitivity at the end of the day,” he told The State Press, ASU’s student newspaper .

After these complaints, ASU issued a statement discouraging students from painting their faces in any color at any event.

“As an inclusive and forward-thinking university, it is important for us to foster an environment in which everyone feels safe and accepted. Therefore, we discourage the use of face paint at any event, whether the theme is black, maroon, gold or white, and ask our fans to show their Sun Devil Pride in other ways,” ASU said.

The university did not explicitly ban face paint, nor did it say if there would be any disciplinary actions for students who wore any.

And while the BAC has released a statement supporting the University’s stance, the coalition is currently writing a bill that will permanently ban the face paint.

The bill, which will be introduced to the ASU Undergraduate Student Government in November, would not only ban the face paint, but would introduce consequences for students who do not comply.

Denman suggested that sensitivity training for these students would be an option.

“I think the immediate consequences should be not allowing them into the event and then make them attend these events like caucuses or classroom workshops where they are made aware of why it is culturally insensitive to students who are Native American or African American or whatever race it is that they identify with or sex or whatever, because it goes either way,” Denman told the State Press.

However, BAC has somewhat softened its calls for a face paint ban. Denman told the Arizona Republic that the group is now calling only for a ban on full face paint, not on partial face paint.

This isn’t the university's first controversy with race this year. Last January, students attending a Tau Kappa Epsilon “MLK Day Party” involving watermelon cups and basketball clothing created national outrage. Although the fraternity has since been kicked off campus, some students believe the university’s face paint stance is a smart one, given the state’s recent history.

ASU student Levi Espinoza told Campus Reform that while he agrees that the “vast majority” of students wearing the paint didn’t have racist intent, he thought ASU made the correct decision.

“I think it's a smart thing to do, and admirable that they're not doing an outright ban on face paint even though they could,” said Espinoza. “Given Arizona's controversy involving MLK Day recognition, our seemingly racist immigration policies, the actions of Sheriff Joe and the recent party that involved ‘dressing African-American’ it's at least cognizant to rethink some things.”

But ASU student and columnist Taylette Nunez wrote an opinion column arguing this policy was misguided.

“Unless people specifically write, speak or act in a way that is offensive to a specific race, why should face painting be seen as something negative? This is something that has been done for decades and is seen as a way of supporting a team, not hurting peers,” he wrote.

“During the Olympics, do people really think about the race they represent when painting their bodies or faces? No, they think about their country colors or the colors of their flag,” Nunez added. “The same applies to the football games at ASU. When students paint their faces for football games, it is tied to a theme of the game, colors of the teams or school pride. Never is it intended to be seen as racist or offensive.”

ASU did not respond to requests for comment.

Despite Zero Tolerance Hysteria, Sikhs Allowed to Bring Daggers to School

Political correctness means two sets of rules: one for normal Americans and another for everyone else. Not even the zero tolerance anti-weapons hysteria that prevails in schools applies when it may detract from multiculturalism:

A school in Auburn, Washington, a Seattle suburb and not far from the site of Friday’s school shooting, has decided to allow a Sikh student to carry a ceremonial dagger.

School officials said that there are religious exemptions in state and federal “zero tolerance” policies in allowing the student to carry the weapon.

However, if you are not a Sikh, if you so much as leave a folding knife in a survival kit locked in your car you will be suspended. But the offspring of Muslims may be allowed to wear suicide bomber vests so as not to oppress their cultural identity.

Remarks local radio host Dori Monson,

“When you expel kids for leaving a folding knife in their purse …, but you let the Sikh kid bring a dagger into the classroom every day, I would say political correctness has gotten completely out of control. Our schools have gone insane.”

It’s our liberal ruling class that has gone insane.

Coach Suspended, Team Fined $500 for Playing Too Well

One of the great things about sports from the point of view of Americans is that it teaches kids the value of the competitive spirit that drives excellence. The great thing from the point of view of moonbats is that it allows authorities to crush the competitive spirit so that children may learn that winners are oppressors and losers are righteous victims of insensitivity, in accordance with liberal ideology. In Lawrenceville, Georgia, this lesson came at a price of $500:

Parents of Lawrenceville Black Knights players told CBS46 News their team was fined after one of their players scored a touchdown violating the league’s mercy rule.

The Black Knights were beating Collins Hill 32-0 in the fourth quarter when they got carried away after an interception and scored one touchdown too many.

That touchdown passed the 33-point rule and cost the coach a weeklong suspension and the team $500.

According to the mother of Elijah Burrell, the evildoer who ran back the interception, the Black Knights even tried to let the other team score on the next play, but apparently Collins Hill wasn’t in the mood to score charity points. The gesture was not enough to placate the local kiddie version of NFL bureaucrats, who denounced Lawrenceville for unsportsmanlike conduct.

Top Right News puts this story into the bigger picture:

Parents used to roll their eyes or laugh when they saw their child receive a “participation trophy” for a school competition they lost.

But it is no laughing matter. Over time, Progressive school administrators have destroyed the concept of friendly competition in our schools: degrading the achievements of winners and nullifying the important lessons of losing.

“Everyone’s a winner!” our kids are told. It’s the academic version of Marxist “collectivism”. …

[T]his is what happens when far-left ideology is permitted to take hold. It crushes the spirits of children. At first. Then slowly they come to expect that excelling at something should not be their goal, but rather the fulfillment of the “community”. They start to feel guilty for being exceptional at something, like it is almost a crime.

This drives down the ambitions of the young. Why try harder if you will only be punished for scoring “too many” points, for making “too much” money? Progressives tell our children it’s simply “not fair” for them to have more, or be better than the next child.

Some principles are so basic, you would almost need a PhD in liberal chin-pulling to even think to contest them. Winning is good. Losing is bad. Teaching kids otherwise will not help them succeed.

Tennessee School Uses Handout From Farrakhan’s Nation Of Islam To Smear Founding Fathers As Racists…

Sommer Bauer tells me her son was given The Nation of Islam handout at Harold McCormick Elementary School in Elizabethton. The handout asked “What does it take to be on Mount Rushmore?”

The handout then explains that George Washington hailed from Virginia, a “prime breeder of black people.” Of Theodore Roosevelt, it was alleged he called Africans “ape-like.” There were also disparaging remarks made of Thomas Jefferson (he enslaved 200 Africans) and Abraham Lincoln.

She said her jaw dropped when she followed the link to a website that was listed on the handout. Imagine her surprise when up popped the Nation of Islam home page.

NY Attorney General Gets Colleges To Stop Asking Applicants If They’ve Been Arrested Because It’s A Racist Question…

Stop the world, I want to get off.

Via NY Times:

The application for admission to St. John’s University takes 12 pages to get to the question, but when it arises, it is hard to miss. Set off by a border of bold red, as if to warn of dangerous contents, it asks, “Have you ever been arrested or convicted of a felony?”

On paper, the inquiry seems straightforward enough. But critics, noting the racial imbalances in how some crimes are processed, have argued that asking it can amount to a form of unintended discrimination.

Responding to those concerns, as raised by the advocacy group Center for Community Alternatives, New York State Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman has reached an agreement with St. John’s and two other institutions under which the schools will drop such questions from their standard application process.

“An arrest or police stop that did not result in a conviction, or a criminal record that was sealed or expunged, should not – indeed must not – be a standard question on a college application,” Mr. Schneiderman said in a statement. “Such a question can serve only to discourage New Yorkers from seeking a higher education.”

CAIR Trying To Bully Maryland County School Board Into Making Eid Al-Adha An Official School Holiday…

And if they don’t cave CAIR will accuse them of being Islamophobic bigots.

Via CAIR:

Congratulations to all the new and returning Montgomery County Public Schools’ students and staff on the new academic school year! Now that classes are back in full swing, your help is needed.

On November 11, the MCPS Board of Education is expected to vote on the MCPS school calendar for the 2015-16 school year. Montgomery County Muslims have been requesting for over a decade that Eid holidays be recognized on the MCPS school calendar. So far, these efforts have been met with resistance from the MCPS Board of Education in the form of flat-out refusal to accommodate or by placement of unreasonable or unfair demands.

Take action today by adding your voice to the growing chorus of those demanding equal and fair treatment for Montgomery County Muslim students.

In 2015, Yom Kippur and Eid al-Adha are projected to both fall on the same date: Wednesday, September 23rd. Montgomery County Public Schools will be closed in observance of Yom Kippur.

We ask you to contact the Board of Education and politely but firmly urge them – in the interests of fairness and equality – to also recognize schools closing on this date in observance of Eid al-Adha.

Former Marine Complains About Pro-Islam Bias In Daughter’s Schoolwork, Gets Banned From School Grounds…

Koran

Nuts.

Via Daily Caller:

A Maryland father who asked that his daughter be excused from learning about Islam in her world history class now finds himself under a no-trespass order that prevents him from setting foot on the girl’s public school campus.

The events leading to the no-trespass order occurred at La Plata High School in La Plata, Md., a small town about 30 miles southeast of Washington, D.C., SoMDNews reports, a website for three local newspapers.

The dad is Kevin Wood, a former corporal and eight-year veteran in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Wood was initially upset because he did not want his daughter, a high school junior, to participate in instruction about Islam.

He called the school district office last week, first speaking to an administrative assistant and eventually speaking to La Plata High vice principal Shannon Morris.

A school district spokeswoman, Katie O’Malley-Simpson, said Wood threatened to cause problems at the school during his conversation with Morris. O’Malley-Simpson provided no specific information about any threats the former Marine made.

“Safety comes first,” she told SoMDNews. “We don’t allow disruptions at the schools, especially if we’re forewarned of them.”

Wood denies making any threats. His version of the conversation is that he explained in no uncertain terms that he does “not believe in” Islam and wants his daughter removed from class while other students study the Muslim religion

Former Marine Complains About Pro-Islam Bias In Daughter’s Schoolwork, Gets Banned From School Grounds…

Would you agree that Jefferson's glorious wall of separation between church and state...

...prohibits government schools from instructing citizen students in any/every religion?
