And once panic sets in, where does it end? I live in Minnesota where we have the largest Somalian population in the US. Somalia is no where near Sierre Leone, Nigeria, New Guinea and/or Liberia. What's to stop the stupids (because people are stupid) from going after the Somalians here?[/QUOTE]

My best guess is.....the stupid people in Minnesota...;)

Hi Garby!

New Guinea is an island north of Australia. Which is no where near Somalia or even regular old Guinea.

It's a nice image, either way.

Well shit, clearly I meant Guinea but you knew that. My fault for not googling to make sure.

What we're poo-pooing, as you put it, are the xenophobic, fact-averse displays currently on display among the right. It is the Fox anchors demanding that we close all borders, or stoking fears of a bioterrorist conspiracy. It is the former state GOP chair of SC insisting on summary execution for anyone who has been exposed. It is the fear of the virus becoming airborne, from people who did not previously believe in evolution.
It is the fear and bigotry and incitement to panic that we are seeing from the right, when what we need are facts and information and cooler heads. And I dunno about anyone else, but I'm certainly not laughing. Paranoia is a far more contagious illness than Ebola.

sounds like its already a completely reactionary and political issue fo r you, then.

i don't watch fox news and i don't listen to former governors. i hear what international news sources, the CDC and the WHO are saying.

the disease has a high mortality rate and has spread pretty quickly. thousands dead, many thousands more infected. i don't think its asking too much to institute some tighter travel & infectious disease protocol, to prevent the proliferation that's already gone on at its source.

its too bad you weren't here to preach "what we need are facts and cooler heads" after the michael brown shooting.

This Ebola talk is depressing me. Can't we talk about kittens and puppies? Or maybe boobies??? I thought every one liked boobies!
