The Isolated Blurt Thread IX: Insurrection

I feel like if the old, white men who run this country and have since the 70's cared about Africans dying in the Congo then this wouldn't have been such an epidemic now. But yeah, I enjoy watching the old, white guys on this board try to explain why this is Obama's fault.

IMO i don't think its BO's fault, but i am curious why the Left, in general, seem intent on minimizing this issue. its a pretty serious health matter, and some very serious people keep saying so. but for whatever reason, its an excuse foe the Left to point at the Right and laugh.

i don't get that. lets take *some* precautions, and not just poo-poo the fucking thing.

I don't understand why you think he's poo-poo'ing the whole thing. I'm aware of 4 hospitals around Minneapolis that have containment units set up right now. They didn't do that on their own, there has to be some alert and preparedness going on. I DON'T think that the general public needs to freak though.

nor do i.

and i'm not singling BO out at all, obviously its impossible to know what involvement he has, if any. but when i say the Left i mean not just the liberals here but also on FB where many of my liberal friends are posting endless memes and re-tweets from their senators and congressmen about how this isn't a big deal, about how the deaths aren't that many, about how its not important compared to other issues.

there's "educating the public responsibly", and then there's "relying on social media to turn this into yet another partisan squabble". the whole ebola issue in the u.s. resembles the latter, not the former. and that's kinda dumb.

Painting done for the evening...at this rate it'll take me the next two years to complete! :)

Dinner is heating (Chicken, Vegetable and Millet Stew) and the wine tastes delicious.

This makes up for *some* of the day.

And on another note; I'm really liking this new protein powder...tastes great...mixes well...nothing too funky. Awesomesauce!

I think the Governemnt response (CDC) has been weak at best on this issue. Obama is not responsible for Ebola but I think he is relying solely on the CDC for advice and I think that is misguided. The government is always 1 step behind the curve on everything. The smart play on Ebola would be to impose restrictions on immigration from the countries where the outbreak is. Delay it 3 weeks from the time a visa is granted ,enough time to see if the person develops symptoms.

Generally speaking people are complacent so if people are on edge over Ebola I think that's a good thing (As long as there is no chaos in the streets).

The current policy of taking a persons temperature at the airport when they arrive here is beyond moronic. There is even now debate if the Zaire strain can be contracted from inhaling microscopic droplets from someone sneezing.

Since there is no treatment other than antibodies (blood transfusion) from a survivor or the experimental vaccine from a tobacco plant. The best thing we can do is try to prevent it's entry into this country while doing what we can to halt the spread and treat the sick at the source.

And once panic sets in, where does it end? I live in Minnesota where we have the largest Somalian population in the US. Somalia is no where near Sierre Leone, Nigeria, New Guinea and/or Liberia. What's to stop the stupids (because people are stupid) from going after the Somalians here?

People are talking about it which is good. Your point is well taken regarding stupid people and what they may do, which is why I say the CDC's response has been weak. The best way to combat the "stupids" is to be proactive with frequent updates & information to dispel rumors and gossip.

What I would like to know why didn't the CDC step up and say time out Mr. President this is a bad idea, when in 2009 the Obama Administration cancelled quarantine plans developed under Bush admin in 2005 to combat H1N1 bird flu? A contagious illness is a contagious illness, the point is to try to prevent it's spread. The CDC gets an F for it's performance. They failed Obama and the American people in their core responsibility.

Ah, finally. I can set my boobs free. Shower done, all nice and clean. It's t-shirt and panties time.

25000 to 50,000 people die in the US from Influenza each year.

1 has died from ebola in the entire history of the planet.

No ones minimizing anything.

Minnesota has a big advantage, we have Osterholm. He gets funding and things done.

My kitty is just fine in her panties but, thank you for your concern. :)

PS. I rarely get yeast infections.

What we're poo-pooing, as you put it, are the xenophobic, fact-averse displays currently on display among the right. It is the Fox anchors demanding that we close all borders, or stoking fears of a bioterrorist conspiracy. It is the former state GOP chair of SC insisting on summary execution for anyone who has been exposed. It is the fear of the virus becoming airborne, from people who did not previously believe in evolution. It is the fear and bigotry and incitement to panic that we are seeing from the right, when what we need are facts and information and cooler heads. And I dunno about anyone else, but I'm certainly not laughing. Paranoia is a far more contagious illness than Ebola.

Not to do with anyone on lit
It is not hard to believe that you reneged, even after all your "it's no problem at all" but it really wasn't nice to do it 3 days before when B has already purchased tickets and all.

New Guinea is an island north of Australia. Which is no where near Somalia or even regular old Guinea.

It's a nice image, either way.
