For the kind of - activity - the OP is wanting, I'd be afraid of lag screws and such. Better off with something that's designed for serious load bearing work.

I come from a long line of seat of pants engineers. They were blacksmiths.

One of my cousins took the ordinary trusses in his garage reinforced it with a steel plate of his design and was able to pull an engine out of a car.
