Stolen work?

I'm sure this question has been asked many times, but I would still like some advice.

So it was brought to my attention that one of my stories has been posted as someone else's work on another website (xhamster). I would be fine with that if I was credited at all.

So my question is: Is it worth trying to do anything about? The FAQ has this to say about copyright:

"While Literotica is not in any way required to enforce your copyright for you, you are granting us the right to do so if we become aware of anyone using your story without your explicit consent."

Am I to understand that I could contact Lit to have them handle it?

Supposedly xHamster is pretty good about taking down stories if you use their contact form and report them.

There was someone else here recently that ran across more than a few of theirs posted there by the same person, and managed to get them removed. It appeared they had lifted a bunch more from LIT and slapped their own name on them also.

That site you might actually get action with a complaint. Good luck. :)

You can certainly do that (pm Laurel about it) but note that they don't promise to enforce it; depending on the site, it may not be worth their while, in which case it would be on you to chase it up by sending a DMCA or whatever.

Just had a look and one of my stories is on there too. I feel like I've passed some sort of amateur writers initiation test or something. Amazing.

The general advice I've received in the past from Laurel concerning story theft is for YOU to contact the offending site with a take down request. You're the author. It's YOUR work. You still own the rights to your story. I can vouch that Laurel is good about taking down stories you don't want posted anymore. You can send her a PM, too, if you'd like - but I think the best decision is to contact the site yourself.

Thanks for the replies.

I'm wondering how it works though. Since I'm under an alias and have not registered anything. Could I still enter my name (or even alias? no probably not) and link to the original content on Lit to get it taken down.

I'm not sure I'll actually do that. But it feels like a good thing to know.

Doesn't matter. If you are required to file a DMCA there is a pen name and real name requirement. DMCA's aren't published by the site. They only use them to verify ownership.

But from what I hear xHampster is good about just taking them down once you complain. Just give them the link on their site and the one here on Lit. so they can verify your claim.
