Do you upgrade with each new incarnation? If so, why? if not, why not?

I recently tossed my cell phone in the garbage. I hadn't used it once in 30 months. Life is better now.

iNever pay retail.
iWait.
going out today to look at the iphone 6. I'm considering switching my service from Verizon to T-Mobile, saving $20 a month.
but is it really worth making the change in phones? saving on service is one thing, but if you buy a new phone that does the same thing as what you have, is that really a savings? and also, if it does basically, the same things as the phone you have, isn't that redundant?
I ordered the Plus yesterday but it won't arrive for 3-4 weeks. My only concern is it might be too big, but if it is, I'll just return it to Apple for the regular iPhone 6.
I have threatened to do away with my cell completely. I use it no more than 4-5 times a week to call on my way home from work to see if I need to pick anything up. I have a commute that is over an hour, so my family feels better that I have some form of communication in case I have problems on the road. I think this is silly and can see the day when I win this argument.
I appreciate all of you buying the new iPhone and wish you'd buy two....
I had the new IPhone two years ago.
I'll be getting it either in a couple of months or maybe early next year once the initial bum rush slows down and the Radio Shacks in my area (where I got my last phone) can restock. I currently have about $90 on a trade-in value for my iP5 and I can throw it towards a switcheroo. There also might be some year-end holiday dealios if I wait and see.
It's not a to-die-for must-have as I'm quite satisfied with my iP5, but I am interested in the expanded screen real-estate and a faster LTE connection. Eventually I need to keep current, especially since I use Apple tech for work and play.
