It's Autumn. What does fall mean to you?

I hate fall. I always have. For me, growing up in the coldest civilized place on earth, fall meant the onset of winter. The weather was bad. Blustery, leaves blowing all over the place, days getting shorter and shorter, winter coming.

I now live in a place where fall is beautiful. The weather is beautiful. Grass stays green well into november. I am trying to enjoy it. Its ten years now, and I still can't shake that feeling I grew up with. Maybe its because its the end of summer. And I LOVE summer.

Come to California, we'll change your mind about summer.

Where I grew up (and still live), we have four seasons: Summer, More Summer, Still Summer, and Fog.

Yesterday at 6pm, it was 101*--ugh. It's too hot to go outside, too hot to move, too hot to think. If you are unfortunate enough to have a swamp (evaporative) cooler instead of "bought air," then you are sticky, too, and it doesn't help at all past 90*, so you are screwed anyway.

What passes for our version of Fall doesn't kick in until sometime after Halloween, and it's my favorite time of the year. :D I can wear socks! shirts with sleeves! I can wear my hair down! I no longer have to deal with my makeup and glasses constantly sliding off of my sweaty face (not pretty); and no more waking up in a tangle of sheets that are drenched for all the wrong reasons.

Fall means that we can live outside again. I can resume my daily morning power-walks, my kids can play in the yard, and we don't have to sprint to the van and back again, trying to avoid sunburn. Okay, maybe I was stretching it a bit there, but not by much.

In high school, my bff and I used to refer to fall as "boyfriend weather," because it was the time of year when you could once again use the weather as an excuse to snuggle up next to a warm, strong body. *giggles*

And maybe that's my favorite thing of all about Autumn. :D

I love fall! It's my favourite season, and here in Ontario we have gorgeous ones. I love the crisp clean air, I love the crutch of leaves under my boots, I love how the dog and the horses are all full of themselves and ready to romp! I love my dress boots and jeans and cable knit sweaters and long swishy wool skirts and cute little toques and mittens and down vests and pumpkin pie and Halloween and sleeping with lots of blankets on the bed but keeping the window cracked open. I love wind tussled hair and playing with my boys outside till our cheeks are rosy and cold and then making hot cocoa for us. You can't beat fall.

I completely adore the autumn. From mid September, I can dig my autumn clothes out of the wardrobe, my cosy knits, my favourite boots, my lovely vintage wool coat. I live in an old railway town, with long streets of Edwardian terraced houses and on really crisp nights, the smell of coal fires drifts down my avenue and lingers on my clothes. And there's the food...soups made fresh from seasonal veggies, big pots of slow cooked chilli, and potatoes cooked in bonfires and eaten while snuggled close with someone else under a huge cosy blanket. And the frost. And dew on cobwebs. And fireworks. And opening the front door and having a gust of wind blow a handful of crunchy, colourful leaves inside the house leaving that wonderful, woody, outdoorsy smell...gawd I love it!

I enjoy all of the seasons....

I love fall as I see the completion of my summer gardens. I always have a ton of pumpkins and squash. And corn fodder. That I grew. Its rewarding :). Neighborhood children coming to ask for a pumpkin. Freezing pumpkin for winter pies. I enjoy these things.

Pulling out my scarves and sweaters. My boyfriend cardigans and camisole tops underneath. My skinny jeans. Boot cut jeans. Hug my ass jeans :). And boots. Yes to boots !!

My lawn not growing so fast. Less mowing. Leaves changing. Gorgeous hues of reds and yellows everywhere. Reading my fave children's book " leaf man " to my nephew as we sit outside snuggled up. Anticipating my annual drive along the Blue ridge Parkway. Then hiking up to Mt Mitchell. Daydreaming that perhaps this year I will have another glove holding my hand as we hike. Knowing how cold it always is at the top. Often snow even in early October.

Adding extra cover to my bed. Not having to use my air or heat. Snuggling in. Curling up in my recliner on chilly evenings. Hot cocoa. Warm cider. Dinner by a fireplace. Hot dogs over a fire pit.

I embrace it all.......

I hate that fall brings winter.. and winter means snow...

But fall means fires..dinner over said fire.... hoodies... smores. ..friends... (ok I have most of that in the summer) but at least its chilly and I get to wear a hoody and I enjoy the fire much more.

The leaves changing... the buckeyes falling off the tree... the mums.... beautiful.

Football!!!!!!!!!!! ;)

& hockey ;)

Baseball comes to an end :(

But theres football & hockey ;)

Halloween!!!!!!!!!!!!! Candy..costumes..parties...

It is depressing..... decay and death......
I was happy until I read this thread....:D

You can smell hockey season for one thing. I nice ride on the bike out in the country and long wheelies on the straightaways.
The changing of the leaves, walks along the lake and the crisp air.
Then it all goes to shit when the snow flies....the end.

So here fall doesn't start for another two months. But ahhhh when it gets here I'm so happy. Boots, chili, long sleeves, pumpkin bread, and did I mention boots?!? The ability to walk outside and not drown in sweat or incessant rain. Cutting back my gardens is one of the most satisfying projects I get all year. Ohhhhh and CANDY CORN!!!! :D My only gripe about fall is the allergies it brings on for my family.

I agree. The mere thought of winter (last one was the worse I've ever experienced) approaching makes me want to move. I always get sad when summer ends and hold out until the last possible moment to even think of sweaters and coats. I need to have many things to look forward to and so I very much enjoy the festivals and street fairs that begin in Fall. It doesn't hurt that I absolutely love Halloween and Christmas too.

Fall just means cooler weather...the end of baseball season..the beginning of football season

raking the fricking leaves & getting yard ready for winter....arrrghhh, it's that time already!

Fall: leaves, sweaters, boots, football games, cider:heart:

I just wish we could skip winter and head to spring.

One word, landscapers. :)

i wish..i still like to be active and doing it....it's just that it gets too depressing while doing it, seeing that cold's coming - after not doing it for almost a year!

Pumpkin flavored everything, hot apple cider, pretty leaves (for a little while, anyway), apple picking, warm sweaters...

Beautiful fall day today. Just perfect, once it warmed up from a chilly start. And hockey starts today. Training camps. Yay! Around the corner........
