Systematic one-bombing and harsh comments

I'm just curious how many other authors experience systematic one-bombing combined with exceptionally harsh comments by any-mouse.

It appears to happen to me every so often and it's always the same pattern: the troll will work their way through approximately five or six of my stories, leave a negative comment, and a one-bomb.

I'm not above negative feedback and leaving it in the comment chain. I do, however, have a problem when someone uses the N-word or F-word, especially when it has NOTHING to do with the story.

I don't really want to delete the comment of someone who didn't like a story. But, when any-mouse is systematically going through stories, it's sort of obvious, you know? At this point, the way they word things, their occasional misspellings, wording, etc., it's easy to spot them.

So, I'm curious, how many AH'ers regularly experience this bit of joy? Do you let them have their fun and ignore it or do you take action? Do you delete the offensive comments?

When I released a story in LW where a wife not only got away clean with having sex in front of her husband, but even did it with a black man, the scores for all my stories - including one in another category - went noticeably down.

It's all part of the game...

I let them spew and leave their comments up for others to see thier ignorance.

I haven't posted in LW in nearly three years. I don't watch my scores closely enough to notice systematic one-bombs. I think it's more the nuisance of comments combined with the one-bombs. Tough to think I'm unique with this kind of semi-regular attack, but tough to know without asking. :)

I never post a story without getting at least one 1-bomb, more often two. Usually I get a snarky anonymous comment at the same time. I think this person works through the BDSM section (maybe others) bombing stories that are approaching 4.5. I've seen the same troll leave comments on other BDSM stories: the person is easy to identify because he/she repeats certain phrases and misspellings.

I've just recently learned how not to get upset about this. If you want to score well here, you have to make your story good enough that it can survive some 1-bombs.

As for comments, I recommend deleting any that are abusive or don't display a knowledge of the story. Alternatively, turn off anonymous feedback.

I feel as if my stories score well enough. They go up and down. Sweeps make a difference, as they should, I guess. And I think I do a good job brushing off negative comments. If this troll had half a brain (which, by definition, they don't), they would space out their comments over a period of days or weeks instead of systematically hitting several stories all at the same time. This morning, I apparently was following behind them while they were hard at work. I saw three of their comments in a row, began deleting them just to take away their satisfaction, and whenever I returned to my "Recent Comments" list, they had moved to another story. I waited about fifteen minutes until they were done and deleted the rest.

Really, it takes fewer keystrokes and mouse clicks for me to delete a comment than it takes them to make one. It's a minor nuisance, a stupid game played on a free website. Mostly, I continue to be curious how many AH'ers have experienced the same joy.

I get the consistent one-bombing but only rarely receive a harsh comment.

All my loving wives stories have comments and voting off, just to frustrate the trolls.

As of right now only four stories have comments and voting turned on and none of them are in loving wives, nor have I noticed any 1-bombs or rude comments.

Almost every story I post gets a 1, two 2's, and a 3 by ten o'clock in exactly that order every time.

I get a few harsh comments from anymouse but most are there because they hate all the good comments from people who enjoyed the story. I haven't had to delete one in a while now.

The most interesting thing to watch is the blatant manipulation of the favorite lists.

Not sure what you mean by that, but maybe that's because I'm rather unfamiliar with favorite lists.

Meanwhile, I reached out to Laurel concerning how systematic it's been, especially with the comments. (N*gg*r this and F*gg*t that). In part, here was her reply:

". . . Once you've reported the comment to us, you can go ahead and delete the comment from public view. We can still see it on our end, and will use that comment to find other spam/abuse."

So far, I'm finding it interesting that I'm the one who has earned such a dedicated troll!

It's real easy to see. A certain poster who hasn't had a story on Lit in two years gets 2 to 6 favorites a day, every day. His two stories on the story list gets the same number of favorites.

Every story that is not incest gets the same number of favorites on the incest story above it. The half dozen people that speak out about this poster on the forums gets the same number of favorites added to the people above them on the list.

I've been watching this for almost two years now. So if you think your position on the favorites list means anything, think again. It's being manipulated to hell and back by at least one person.

I'd love to see an ISP sweep on the it but that'll never happen.

Yeah, me too. It got started when I did a TV/CD story with a wife feminizing her hubby, then went to full swing when I did three LW stories.

It seemed to have tapered off, both the one bombs and the comments, then happened again a few months ago, but not full bore. The sweeps have always helped. I once got a comment telling me that I should be killed, along with my sister and mother. Idiots.

It's part of life, it sucks. I started a similar thread when it first happened, and reading about how the other more experienced authors feel about things really helped. Didn't stop me from getting POed, but it helped.

I rarely get harsh comments and I haven't a clue about my one-bombs. Perhaps I should write more controversially.

How do you know you have been 1 bombed? Can you see what you have been scored or are you working this out?

If you have a great story score, which I see all your stories do they must be repeatedly getting 4/5s so I would think a single 1 will not really effect it. (Or does it?)

Plus I remember reading somewhere what has already been mentioned that that they run a sweep that takes out any inconsistent votes, although not entirely sure how that is worked out.

Depends on vote total. If you write in a category that only sees around 50-100 votes a one bomb is noticeable.

For me, because I write in widely read categories, I wouldn't know if I was bombed up and down because I only have a couple of stories with low enough totals to see a big difference. Many of mine are in the high hundreds or in the 1-3k range so....

But if you're in fetish or sci fi or celebs or things not known for a big draw trolls can do a number on you.

I think that's OK... As long as you do the fair thing, & end every story with this sentence so people can also see yours.

Oh, that was.....not very clever, but for you? Not too bad. Keep trying and you'll get there, probably right about the time your other nut finally drops.

Bet you checked three times to make sure you spelled "there" right, though. :D

Yes. I assume it's the same asshole(s) and there's a possibility it's one of the authors.

Fuck it. Sometimes the really ignorant comments stimulate other people to vote, so I rarely bother to delete them unless they would be offensive to others.

I've considered refusing to accept anonymous comments, but many times this means you miss out on more good ones than bad ones.

Lately I just quit looking. There's not enough feedback to be helpful, good or bad.

I stayed up and watched one morning, and it was easy to see what the votes were: 5,5,5,4,5, (score was then 4.8) and then suddenly anonymous rang in with "I dont waist my time reeding yer crap" and the score dropped to 4.1. So I don't doubt it was the same asshole who had been harassing me for weeks.

I don't obsess about scores. My stories seem to do pretty good. I think I write "pornier" stuff than people who consistently score higher than me. But I do try to weave a "real" story into all that explicit sex.

I check my feedback most mornings. It's nice knowing people are still finding and reading my stories. And every now and then, when I glance at my feedback, I'll see a string of similarly worded comments posted across several stories, all by anon. As for my scores, most of my stories have been up there long enough that the score doesn't fluctuate by much. However, I do find it interesting that after anon makes those comments, the stories they choose all go down by a noticeable amount. Makes me wonder if they have a method for gaming the system and somehow submitting multiple scores. Just a tin-hat style conjecture on my part.

Otherwise, my scores are relatively stable, unless I've been pissing people off in here in the forums, then I'll notice a dip that takes either a sweep or time to correct from other readers and their votes.

As I've said before, it's the systematic approach this particular troll takes that I find interesting. And that's what has me wondering if anyone else experiences that same sort of systematic attack. Next time it happens, if I remember, I'll either leave the comments up for a couple days or quote them before deleting them to give everyone a better idea.

It was more... clever; creative; intelligent (pick one, as all are true) then you'll ever be in a post.

Also, don't be thinking about when my nuts dropped! The b***h (in your family, not your avatar) keeps asking me if I expect you'll ever have any.
