Just Plain Depressing...

*Sigh* OK, ye of the hard head. Go ahead and call the police. We'll both hear the horselaugh.

Just love it when the uninformed rattle rockets here that they don't have (especially while they are ignoring anything that they actually could do about it).

I'm not saying the perpetrator can be caught or a case successfully prosecuted. I'm saying that's what happened.

As to what to do about it, I don't know. As I said earlier in this thread, the problem is much bigger than this site. To tell people who've been threatened with bodily harm to grow up seems to me the wrong way to approach the problem.

Criminal behavior doesn't enter into this no matter how much some of you want to assume it does. First, it doesn't involve more than fake names on an Internet site the abused is voluntarily participating in. Any legal sense of stalking doesn't really even begin until the abused leaves the Web site and is pursued beyond it--in their real-life persona. Second, the threats are only criminal when they are acted upon.

Thinking Lit. could/would hire an IT guy to track these guys down and report them only to be told, "show me something illegal they are doing," is, yes, the "expectation of babysitting" syndrome. The reality is that Literotica can't even maintain the functions of its own site let alone pursue something as illegal that isn't. It's all part of this misunderstanding of what "rights" are in the Internet.

If you want to be doing more than just blowing smoke, back up to urging the Web site to honor and pursue its own harassment rules and zero out the accounts as they occur (and recurr). And do it directly to them. This forum is monitored or even necessarily read by anyone in authority here.

I too wish the Web site would do this. But we've had a lot bigger abuse stories than this (e.g., the dead baby incident) happen on this Web site with nary a peep from the Web site adminstration. That appears to be their message that this is an adult site and you take responsibility for being here and on the site as it is as adults, or it's bye-bye.

There is a real person behind these fake names. If a guy wears a mask and shoots you, does it not count because it was not his real face?

But I agree the site really could not police this,

Or could they?

Yes, they could.

How?

No more anonymous and any feedback sent through the private feedback needs to have an e-mail address. If you're not doing anything wrong, what does it matter? But if you are sending messages like this? Here you go detective here is their e-mail address.

This shit would get cut down drastically is everyone here had to register with an e-mail. A good detective/ PI will find someone through it no matter how you falsify the information in the profile.

Anonymous is given free reign to torment and harass people. These people would not say boo in real life to anyone because there are consequences involved, but here? You see what they do and they can be eliminated, but the site would have to give a fuck and if anyone here knows they don't better than me, its you.

My Actual View:
She joined a creepy porn site on the Internet then left because it was too creepy.

The place isn't creepy, some of the people are, and I say some. Lit has....who the hell knows how many members and its a minute percentage that act like this, but they do stand out, don't they?

For those of you who have ever received an e-mail from me you know my e-mail shows up as "Laura Lovecraft" my female pen name on SW and every site except Amazon. It shows up that way because its attached to the LL website.

So anytime I respond to feedback they see that.

I have a folder with about 25 threats of rape and violence (many due to a couple of LW stories) only two had an e-mail that I could respond to and I never bothered even the one who said they lived less than a half hour from RI and could find me.

Now here on the boards I am obviously male and many can agree a shit stirrer with a bad attitude who has no issues saying whatever I feel like.

know how many threats I have gotten from the boards? None.

Know why? Because they know I am not woman and are to chickenshit to fuck with a guy even with the internet between us.

That's the type of asshat coward that is allowed to make their home here behind the guise of Anon.

Again, eliminate that and much of this will disappear, never mind the benefit to comments and votes if everyone had to register.

Let me address two things.

1. The number of posts has nothing to do with anything. It's where and why. What threads was she on? What was she discussing? What did she expect?

You'd be amazed at how many women complain about harassment, only to have tit pics in their avatar or looking for "chat buddies" etc. in their profiles. Or again, usernames like "gimmeyourload." Hmmm, why is this happening to poor me???

2. I was addressing unwanted PMs and Feedback of an unpleasant, but non-threatening, nature. Threats of rape are something else entirely from "Hey baby I liked what you were saying on the boards."

In the first case, you really have little right to complain. In the second, you do, no matter what your username, etc.

I still think there is too little info on what went to fully understand it.

Should I point out her profile for you?

There was nothing to incite. She used her nickname, a bland sig etc. etc.

And talking about stalking, how much do you post anyway? You won't pop out into their radars at that rate.

I admit. She posted quite a lot, but really? Being on the porn website gives you the right to give threats? What sort of fucking logic is that?

No, wait! I should've checked Lit rulebook beforehand.

Of course, she has been shaken. So she has taken down everything to let the air cool down a bit. Easy to understand?

I don't know whether she'll return or not, but this thing was bad. You can NOT overlook this.

Ive been around lit since the beginning. Never ever had a problem, except the one comment I made about dildos on the GB that got me a few PMs. Never did that again. That is exactly what I know.

I do not engage in sexual discussions on any open forum except occasionally the AH. I have nothing personally revealing. I keep a low profile and enjoy reading and writing erotica completely hassle free. That is what I know.

I can only assume, of course I may be wrong, that the "99.9%" are using the Boards and that's where the hassling comes in. I still maintain if you look at the GB or venture into it one time and get PMd and then keep doing it and complain you're an idiot. Naive,.and too young to be here. Talk to your gfs.

QUOTE=LadyVer;59948043]I know this may be hard to believe, but 99.9% of women on Lit who have experienced what the OP is talking about didn't do anything to incite or cause the abuse. "She sounds too naive and dumb..." That is pure bullshit. It's similar to a rape victim being blamed for the rape. Stick to what you know about. Obviously you haven't been around Lit that much.
[/QUOTE]

Everyone's experience is different. This problem is not limited to one forum, or to the forums. You don't even have to have made any comments anywhere, either on the forums or the story site, to get sick pms. And if one does make a comment, sometimes the discussion had absolutely nothing to do with sex, as LC explained about his wife in a previous comment. No one on this site should have to put up with abuse, stalking, or threats. And this behavior should not be lightly excused as, well, what do you expect on a porn site or the internet, or stay off the gb, don't comment on the LW, or be a grown up, etc etc.

And for men in 2014 to think that just because a woman comes to a porn/erotica site, that automatically means she's a whore that deserves to be talked to like an animal because she won't put out for him or talk to him the way he wants her to, they are obviously missing a few screws.

I understand your post, but let me say something.

One if a woman's name is "gimmieyourload" she will probably be okay because with that name she is most likely fine with people pm'ing her with dirty talk.

But your comment of if you are hear and talking about sex with a person on the board that means you want "I am going to tie you up and beat you, you little whore" from every guy is pretty much along the lines of

"She was wearing a revealing dress so it was okay to pin her down and rape her"

Many guys here will start off with a hello, or a hey, pretty lady liked your post. Some might start out dirty, but if the response is "not looking for that" they wander off, but there are some like who my wife dealt with that when told not interested erupt like that.

No one deserves to be threatened and spoken to like that just because they are on a board on a sex site.

You write incest stories, would you deserve to be attacked by your father? Of course not. So by the same token a woman making a remark about sex is not an invitation to treat her like a whore.

Or should I say "cunt" the official word of lit when it comes to women?

OK, now I think I know who this departing member is--and there's a great deal of irony there--at least on the topic of stalking, although certainly not sexual harassment--that I'd be happy to share with TSB if PMed about it. Yes, there was some flirting going on on the forum--but, yes, you'd have to be a lunkhead to interpret that as "I want you to meet me and fuck me." We do have our share of lunkheads here, though. It's a porn site with pretty open parameters--more open than the guidelines claim the borders are.

The bottom line here, though, is that there is no control over such messages initially being sent in just about any communications system that could be devised. Beyond that, did the departing member PM Laurel with the text of the messages and not receive any action? Simple, direct action that could be taken under existing forum rules would be to zero out the account of the message sender as a breach of the harassment rule. And the next time and the next time, and eventually the practice would be whittled down considerably. So, was it reported? If not, not much could be done about it now (although it still could be reported if it hasn't been).

So, what can actually be a near solution in the real world here is the simple process just described. The Web site could receive reports of sexual harassment, with the quoted text of the harassing passages, could send a warning (giving the guy a chance to claim he's being framed), and then the next time zero out his account. And continue doing this until the lunkhead population starts getting the message.

So, those of you here who are up in arms, I've given you a real, workable process (which is more than any of you have given). All you need do is get the Web site on board. If you can't get the Web site on board on something that is both within its rules and pretty simple to do, you are being given a message by the Web site.

All the rest you are doing is posturing and empty bluster based on a misunderstanding of the real world--and its responsibilities to you personally.

At the risk of sounding like a total tool, I'll say that we should expect such creeps on places such as Lit rather than be scandalized by them.

Actually, ye who lives in the 60's, and wouldn't know the real world if it bit you in the ass, the laws are evolving as more and more cyber crimes are being acknowledged as cyber crimes.

Would the police do something about this? Sadly it depends on the cop, but if they are doing their job they forward it out to whatever jurisdiction the asshat lives in and if they do their job they contact him and pretty much just make him nervous.

Can they outright charge him with intent? No, stick and stones, he'll say he was just fooling around and they will say, "as you can see no one is laughing" and they send him on his way like a scolded child.

IF a person does this enough, as I said cyber bullying is becoming a prosecutable offense. It won't go down as a rape charge of course, but sexual harassment and stalking is certainly on the table.

Especially because with this type of person it is never a one time one person thing. My money says this stalker has sent these threats to other women here and probably other sites as well.

Law enforcement gets into his e-mails its see you later.

I know you won't believe that because you won't want to, but that is a fact. Got a friend who works in a SVU and they are paying attention to this behavior because it can start out as nasty e-mails and easily go to the next level in a disturbed individual.

Someone should put that to a test. E-mail a picture of your dick to Obama and tell him how you plan to use it on him. Set oven timer and see how long it takes the FBI to visit you. :D

At the same time, do it to Obama's Literotica account name and then compare the response time of the two (which is rather one of the points here).

No one here is posturing, just stating their opinions and or experiences, just like you were, Pilot.

The bottom line is that when a woman on Lit gets threatening and harassing pms that are definitely not the run-of-the-mill Want to see my cock or Are you wet for me yet pms, she should forward these pms to Lauren with a clear, brief history of the issue. If the harassment/threats continue, keep forwarding them to Lauren.

That actually sounds like a good story idea. :)

According to the NCSL, "States have enacted "cyberstalking" or "cyberharassment" laws or have laws that explicitly include electronic forms of communication within more traditional stalking or harassment laws."

Cyberstalking. Cyberstalking is the use of the Internet, email or other electronic communications to stalk, and generally refers to a pattern of threatening or malicious behaviors. Cyberstalking may be considered the most dangerous of the three types of Internet harassment, based on a posing credible threat of harm. Sanctions range from misdemeanors to felonies.

Cyberharassment. Cyberharassment differs from cyberstalking in that it may generally be defined as not involving a credible threat. Cyberharassment usually pertains to threatening or harassing email messages, instant messages, or to blog entries or websites dedicated solely to tormenting an individual. Some states approach cyberharrassment by including language addressing electronic communications in general harassment statutes, while others have created stand-alone cyberharassment statutes.

THIS SHIT IS ILLEGAL I'm not saying you're going to be able to get anyone to do anything about it...but you can always threaten to try.

I've given what can be done here on this in the real world.

You can either urge the Web site to enact this or you can continue posturing and blustering about it to no avail. I don't really care which you do.

If you pursue what you think is a legal remedy, I'm all ears on the outcome of that.

The reality on Literotica is that the subculture of posters hitting directly on folks (and, yes, I get hit on too) is fostered by the material that Literotica permits to be posted to the site.

I am having a serious problem wrapping my head around this one.

Are there really people that are that masochistic hanging out here?

At the same time, do it to Obama's Literotica account name and then compare the response time of the two (which is rather one of the points here).

What's his account name? :D

If someone hits on it by accident, they'll still get a visit from the FIB.

Something else the perverts might want to consider: Rumor has it that NSA and others have rooms full of their own trolls, who spend their days dicking around on MMORPG's, chat rooms, and discussion sites looking for people to harass. And I expect they have screen names like "Fucktoy" and "Tightpussy."

Sorry, Jack, you can type that last part as large as you want, but Pilot the pretentious know it all will still argue it is not so. Why? because he knows things, he knows everything, just ask him, he will tell you.

Some of the rest of us on the other hand do know this, because...well, because its true.

No, you have stated what you think can be done based on your limited thinking and what you've learned by hanging around your office day in day out for your entire life.

As for a legal remedy? Try doing some research of your own on the matter and then get back to us. But you won't because you will find evidence that this is indeed prosecutable and will just not say anything.

In the first case, you really have little right to complain.

Disagree. If somebody says "no horny PMs please" and people send them horny PMs they have every right to complain. The fact that it's predictable some creepers will disregard a person's preference doesn't make it any more acceptable.

I still think there is too little info on what went to fully understand it.

The lady switched off her PMs to stop these people messaging her and they resorted to the Feedback tool, sending her "really sick" emails with a threat to visit her at home in real life. I suppose there might be some bizarre set of circumstances where that's all a terrible misunderstanding, but I don't feel the need to waste a whole lot of time on that hypothesis.

At the risk of sounding like a total tool, I'll say that we should expect such creeps on places such as Lit rather than be scandalized by them.

Or, we could do both.

That actually sounds like a good story idea. :)

It would be a really short story.

Plot outline:

Little gray mushroom-like guy sits in a dimly lit room full of computer equipment in his mother's basement. He sends pictures of someone else's dick to random women, some of whom are actually men, but he doesn't really care. He explains how he intends to use it to violate the woman he imagines is behind the screen name.

He quite innocently happens to send one to one of George Bush's daughters.

The FBI, the DEA, the Secret Service, and possibly the ASPCA bulldoze the house and find it sitting in the corner of the basement giggling and whacking off.

They take him to a place where he will have sex regularly, although not necessarily voluntarily.

Everyone lives happily ever after.

The End.
