When the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was passed, it became illegal for employers to discriminate based on race. But decades laters studies show white workers still earn tens of thousands more than workers of color in the same job.

A 2011 Georgetown study found white engineers earn an average of $80,000 a year but their African-American counterparts earn $20,000 less. Latino engineers earn $24,000 less than white ones.

The racial inequality and wage gap also exists in the adult film industry.

Women of color in the pornography industry are paid half to three quarters of what white actresses tend to make.

In a New York Times essay published this week Dr. Mireille Miller-Young wrote that the greatest challenge faced by women who work in the pornography business, in addition to social stigma, is gender and racial inequality.

Miller-Young, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor of Feminist Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Her research explores race, gender and sexuality in visual culture and sex industries in the U.S.
Also consider the fact that very few black women make the cover of FHM or other such bastions of female beauty. And the absolute hate-on that America has for dark skinned black women (Lupita Nyongo being the token counter example).

Every industry except maybe athletics has its own unique set of "rock solid" excuses for why black people are paid less. But in the end, black people can't get an equal break in almost any industry.

It just doesn't pay to be black in America. You suffer an automatic pay cut. Of course whites can't understand this - being white is "normal" and there's no racial pay penalty for being white.

Sorry to break it to you, but even if we achieve full equality, you ain't gonna make it in the porno business.

I'd tell you to go fuck yourself, but it's about the only action half this miserable country gets on a monthly basis.

Not that it's a full out excuse but the American beauty standard and debatably global standard (set by Western Powers) doesn't pay black chicks as much for porn for the same reason they don't put them on the cover of magazines. They are considered less desirable.

I have never done any kind of comparison, but I believe Asian women in porn make more than their white counterparts. As for black women making less, it is because they are less popular with viewers. I think I know why.

I haven't seen much porn lately but, years ago, I found black women less desirable because of the lack of contrast. Their nipples, pussy lips and assholes are almost the same shade as the surrounding skin and hair, instead of standing out. With a white woman, she has fair skin and pink or brown nipples that are very visible and her ass and pussy lips, especially when swollen, are a beautiful pink color and very visible against her surrounding skin. For Asian or Hispanic women, it is much the same, except for being a dark, velvety brown which contrasts deliciously with the surrounding skin.

In addition, Asian women have always been especially attractive to white men, partly because of their shiny black hair and partly because of their rather exotic facial features.

I don't believe the differences would be covered by the Civil Rights Act of 1964 because the differences in pay are due mainly to sales appeal.

I also think women in porn make much more than men and that they deserve it. Except for gay movies, women are the stars and men are not much more than part of the scenery, like beds or pillows - necessary but not very noticeable.

Yup.

It's not a political thing or equality thing really. It's a business thing. White men have most of the money and buying power. So they''re the market you go for.

Bigger question is, why does the market want what it wants? Are we culturally conditioned to fancy one thing over the other? Do we have naturally racist dicks?

Yeah I touched on that in the OP... it's not just porn, it's entertainment in general. It's bad luck to be born black anymore.

Dude, i wasn't addressing you.

People wonder why noobs get a hard time here.

::Avery::
LOL, you trolled me and then got trolled. But then you didn't actually get trolled, you just got your panties in a big fat knot over nothing at all.

Crybaby.

That would be a good porn series: "Big Assed, Underpaid Ghetto Babes Banged By Tatted Up Overpaid (white) Bros"

They could have a running digital counter showing how much they're both making as the shoot proceeds. [/byron]

At the end of the day, a boner never lies. Most people are attracted to their own race, and in the US, blacks are a minority. Therefore, there will not be economic parity in the world of porn - few eyes watching it, fewer erections = less money. End of story, nothing to see here.

Yeah, some noob just up and tells me out of the blue to go fuck myself because I mocked you.

Boy, that never happened before.

::Avery::
Finding offense where there was none, right after you tried to offend me.

The irony of this is just too fun not to savor.

You fucking crybaby.

But it's not just the porn industry. As the article pointed out, it's also the same problem in engineering. It's that way in almost every profession. Same shit different unique set of excuses.
