COLORADO SPRINGS — A racial equity program that began with widespread support and was propelled by George Floyd’s murder all but died on a chilly Wednesday evening in a near-empty school board meeting room.
During a budget debate, a pair of liberal board members were no match for the newly elected majority. The conservatives had taken office after a campaign focused on race and allegations that critical race theory had invaded the local schools, the most diverse in El Paso County...
If Floyd’s murder forced many schools to consider that systemic racism was holding back students of color, the 2021 elections delivered a backlash. Across the country last year, school board elections became the epicenter of a culture war over race. Conservative victories led many boards to fire superintendents and curtail racial justice initiatives...
in summer 2021, the mood in America had shifted. Conservative complaints about critical race theory were proliferating across the country, including in Colorado Springs.

There has always been a white backlash against efforts by the U.S. government to achieve racial equality between whites and blacks. In 1876 Reconstruction came to an end. Whites in Southern states regained control of their state governments. The Supreme Court began to ignore the Fourteenth and Fifteenth Amendments because the Court knew that those amendments had become unpopular with the vast majority of whites. Jim Crow laws were passed. Most blacks were denied the right to vote. Statues of Confederate leaders were erected.
The second white backlash began in 1968 when white blue collar workers left the Democrat Party to vote for George Wallace and Richard Nixon. As a result of the second backlash the New Deal coalition that began with the election of 1932 came to an end, the Republican Party came to dominate the country, forced school busing came to an end, the number of black men receiving long prison sentenced increased. There was a corresponding decline in the number of black women receiving welfare checks for their illegitimate children.
The third backlash is beginning now. It will be substantiated by scientific discoveries pertaining to the genetic reasons for individual and racial differences in intelligence, crime, and illegitimacy. People will be more willing to look at the scientific evidence, and less afraid of being called racists.
