GOP surrenders on Obamacare: Why they slashed spending on anti-ACA ads

Not for nothing but in a lot of conservative states people genuinely believed that the ACA might be repealed and thought, "Shit I better get that while the getting's good". So the anti-ACA ads actually upped enrollment.

lolol, for real.

i think the ACA brought a lot of people into the fold of thinking about a society working for them, and not them working for a society, per se.

just a thought....

I know damn it......fuckin' lame......

Maybe someday M'uricuh will pass some legislation not focused on how to extract more pennies from the poor to give to the rich.

lolol, for real.

Is that a problem?

no way, it's fucking awesome.

"people should not be afraid of their governments, governments should be afraid of their people........"

This isn't related to the conversation, but what is up with your icon? Is coat technology too complicate for you? Like what is going on with that?

We've been over this many times before -- at least half the antis are anti because the ACA does not go far enough and they want single-payer or something.

Do you have any reliable statistics to support that statement or are you just making up the numbers?

I have very little confidence in an opinion piece in the NY Times and even less in any kind of statistics that are almost a year old.

First of all, Grampa Kiddiefucker, it's not an opinion piece, your shoot-the-messenger reflexive response notwithstanding. So fuck you.

Second of all, fewer and fewer polls about the favorability of the ACA are being conducted, for the simple reason that more and more people in America have come to the grudging realization that the ACA is A) working and B) here to stay. Again, fuck you.

To summarize, fuck you.

Yeah, that was the most recent I could find in the first 5 links provided by Google. You could probably find something more recent if you actually looked. But it's pretty obvious so I didn't put a lot of work into it.

Allison Kopicki is a columnist with the Times, not a reporter. He or she might have started with (cherry-picked) facts, but then added his or her own opinion.

I also want to point out the age is even worse than I suggested. The two links are from Sept. 30 and Oct 1 of last year, which was before the rollout debacle.

Here are some more recent statistics: http://www.people-press.org/2014/03/20/aca-at-age-4-more-disapproval-than-approval/

Occam's Razor

The Republican consultants know that repeal talk gins up the liberal base. Therefore they advised dropping any ads or rhetoric representing repeal and focusing on the topics that repress Democrat turnout. Then, when in control of both houses, they can begin offering fixes, which will be, in effect, repeal of most of the crap, without the harmful words that make Democrats go bat-guano crazy...

;)

... and then make the chief Democrat keep vetoing the repeal of legislation that is not popular and economically harmful.

Okay, Chief, you're covered.

You've given us detailed explanations why the Republicans SHOULD and SHOULD NOT campaign against the Obamacare legislation that you hate with every fiber of your being.

Now, come November, whatever happens in the elections, you can smug sit back, scratch your non-functional nutsack and smugly say "I told you so!"

Seems like any other GOP strategy, all of which are designed to keep control of the party in establishment hands, but keep conservative dollars flowing into campaign chests.

The longer ACA stays in effect, the more people benefit from it and the more time to see none of the dire predictions come true. The GOP does not want another unpopular party dividing issue. They already have gay marriage and immigration reform to separate them from the majority of American voters.

When Bush left office, all he had to show for it was two towers that weren't there and two wars he couldn't end. Even with Obama's problems, the US is out of the wars and we have ACA.

The 2016 GOP candidate is not going to have much to talk about except his base issues. Telling people he intends to cancel their health insurance won't play well and any candidate who plays that card to win the nomination really doesn't need to show up for the general election.

Good lord, you people keep saying the same thing for the past four years.

The longer they have it, the more they are going to like it, but this fall there is going to be another round of rate hikes and employers and enrollees dropping out, but hey, a good story, oft repeated turns and eight-inch catfish into freaking Jaws...

This was supposed to be an election cycle where the love for Obamacare was going to prove the Republicans were consigned to the ash bin of history instead of the Republicans being at +7 (RCP average) in taking over the Senate.

Wrong again Chief

Nobody ever said that. To the contrary, YOU were the one telling us, until this week, that the absolute hatred of Obamacare was going to be the dooooooooooom of the Democratic party.
