i disagree! what better challenge is there than playing an opponent as good, if not better, than yourself?

that way, if you lose you can lose happy in the knowledge you were beaten by a worthy opponent, and if you should win then you can be justifiably proud of the achievement. there's no sport in playing a pre-determined outcome, surely?

You're right, of course. As long as I play well, I really don't care all that much about the outcome. It's supposed to be fun and if it stops being fun, it's time to do something else.

It can be frustrating. There's one fellow I play whom I've never beaten in six or seven attempts. In fact, I've managed to win only one damn set from him. Nevertheless, he insists he enjoys the tennis and is challenged so I continue my efforts. I'm not that far away. All the games are competitive; I just can't get over that last hump.

Stamina is starting to become an issue. Three sets in 88° and I begin to run out of gas. That never used to happen.

Today was a case in point. In two hours, I beat the fellow handily 6-0, 6-1 then lost the third set 6-4 'cause I was tired.

Naturally, the tennis pro enlisted me to go on for another half hour because he needed a fourth for the three young ladies he was teaching.

i really need a smaller heating pad. my nipple is getting roasted while my neck is getting fed hot, healing blood. also, my back. this fucker is way too much.

For some reason I have apparently had a video paused on this in a window in the background for at least a day and I really don't know why.

The weather this summer has been unbelievably excellent. I don't ever remember a summer like this. It's been an incredible stretch of pleasantly warm days with lots of sun and uncharacteristically low humidity. Nights have been cool with lows in the low 60s. The windows are thrown open all night long so I can hear the delightful lullaby of the cicadas, katydids and crickets.

It has been a pretty moderate summer here too. This makes me happy, I'm not a fan of the scorching heat.

I have done the penance.

Now, I am going to do some big-time sinning.

I just stuck my head in a big bowl of buttered popcorn. My head will not emerge until the bowl is empty. I must look like a pig feeding at a trough or a boring machine.

this portlandia marathon was a good idea, me. high five!

basically that means i clapped my hands once.

and i did do that. for real.

deal with it.
