I don't doubt your observations in the slightest. In fact 75% might be low. Most defendants will never go to trial, because they'll be offered a plea bargain such as my friend was: plead guilty to a reduced charge or you'll get 40 years.

His lawyer was a douchebag. He would have been better off with the public defender. He got 40 years anyway, and he never even had intercourse with her. The prosecutor had "deep religious convictions" and so did the judge who gave him 2 twenty-year sentences to be served concurrently.

The prosecutor did not feel that this was sufficient so changed it to "consecutively." I actually saw a copy of the sentencing document--it was clearly scratched out and changed.

Didn't matter. No one gave a shit. It's not a basis for appeal, especially when you plead guilty.

But anyway, the vagaries of the Criminal Injustice system are not really the topic here, so please forgive me for ranting.

Just because men are getting screwed by the system is no reason why women should too. Just leave the woman alone, for Christ's sake. I don't want to have to pay to keep people like her locked up. Send her for psychiatric treatment or something that might help. Shit.

My point was to the people that think she received too much time. If it is wrong for a man and can lead to life, and 40 years for this crime is about the same as life, then it should be the same for a woman. It goes to fairness of sentence, just as your friend got no fairness in his sentence. We can't scream to put the pedophile away for good if it is a man, and not scream the same if it is a woman.


I know of a man that was convicted of this crime when accused by a 12 y/o family member. The girl could not remember the date, which is important since the man worked off shore and was out for 2 weeks and in for 2 weeks. There was no physical evidence as he was accused of forcing her to perform oral sex on him. The only evidence they had, and it is stretching the point, is that the girls story never changed. He was convicted and sentenced to a long prison term. They basically sent him to prison with no evidence in a trial that never should have taken place. As an ex LEO I know our system is broken and it all started with the election of judges and prosecutors. They want and need to look tough on crime and to be protecting the weakest among us.

It results from prosecutors and judges having to run for office and show how tough on crime they are and how they will protect the little children. I think that is a compliment LOL. I am conservative but I have a mind of my own and I have my own sense of honor and what is right. My time in the service and as a cop has shown me way too many times, mans inhumanity to man. I do not often agree with the Democratic PARTY, but as we know the party is not the people in it, it is a thing unto itself that has one goal and that is power. But I do not disagree with everything they say either. The same goes for the Republicans. The problem in our politics today is it is not the people elected that run things, it is the parties and that is a whole different animal that the person elected as a Republican or a Democrat. I also prefer discussion. If all you do is have discussions with people that think like you, it is going to lead to inbred thinking and a bunch of people slapping each other on the back.
