I wonder when it was that Taboo became associated with incest. Was it the Kay Parker movie? It may have been because since then it seems that especially in the "porn world" taboo has become synonymous with incest

Lit is a great example, they're category here is incest/taboo, but the only taboo found there is incest.

The definition of taboo is pretty much anything that society would frown upon(that is the gist I am not quoting a dictionary)

So when you think about that, many more things aside from incest are taboo. For instance although we live in a day where interracial couples are an every day norm for a long time it was taboo for a white woman to be with a black man as well as many other racial combinations.

Along those lines homosexuality was seen as taboo.

For some anal sex is "taboo"

Even things like a 20 year old guy who's been friends with another guy since middle school ending up sleeping with his best friends mother could be seen as taboo, its anything that is "not quite acceptable.

So two things with this topic. One when do you think taboo seemed to be linked mostly with incest and why.

Two and more importantly what is something you would consider taboo and why? Perhaps its your upbringing, your beliefs etc.... but curious to see what people think taboo means to them.

I also want to stress this thread is in no way shape or form meant for anyone to pass any type of judgment. I'm from the "if it feels good do it" school and am open minded, I'm just interested in what some see as taboo that might be no issue to others.

My definition of Taboo is something that people are afraid to discuss openly, or admit that they enjoy something, even to their closest friends.

Incest is the first thing that comes to mind when mentioning Taboo, because people are afraid to talk about it openly. (rightfully so) You don't hear people saying, "Yeah, I just bought that new incest book." But people are open about reading 50 Shades and Anne Rice's Beauty series.

Anal sex used to be taboo, but now a lot of sexual partners are doing it. A woman isn't frowned upon if she does it.

Big differences in age used to be Taboo, but now it's a common thing.

One of the few things that should still be considered Taboo, besides Incest, a teacher/student relationship (assuming the student is older than 18).

Yes, teacher student is a good example. The abuse of authority is definitely taboo(even if the student is willing the teacher should know better)

In today's society, I think taboo is anything that is considered illegal; every thing else is acceptable.

When I was growing up there was a lot of things that was taboo. A white woman didn't associate with a man of color. White man didn't admit he slept with a black woman Or brag about how good it was. In my hometown the Catholic Church frowned on black people staying in town Overnight

Girls learned about the birds and the bees in their wedding bed. Pregnancy out of wedlock Was frowned upon and called taboo.

Only farmers talked about sex between animals. The term bitch meant a female dog And a whore usually meant an unspayed female cat.. I once heard the term beastiality and it meant the person who bred animals To improve a breed such as beefalos ( a cross between a beef cow and a buffalo)

It was definitely Taboo to have thoughts of having sex with an animal or even actually having sex with a beast. I remember being told never ride a horse when your on your period. It meant the smell could excite them and you could get hurt/raped. I didn't know that when an animal came in heat they bled.

Incest was frowned upon it was bad enough being kissing cousins. If it was happening it was kept very quiet no one outside of the home knew or suspected it was happening.

In fact I recall a story of a man was found to be using a condom to prevent pregnancy got in trouble with church. He was charged with casting a taboo against the church.

Using excessive foul language when you spoke with considered taboo only sailors of that way
