WRITING CHALLENGE REVIEW THREAD ~ JULY 2014

Just a few little rules for this thread:-

• This thread is for comments and reviews only. Submissions go here!

• Please keep your comments focused on the pieces posted for the challenge running from 1st – 31st July 2014 only, this is not really intended to be a thread for conversation/flirting/mayhem and so on (Sorry to be a bore!). Writers should be able to find reviews/comments for their pieces without having to trawl through pages of banter (no matter how amusing/sexy it might be!) :)

Readers/Reviewers:- Please keep your comments and reviews polite and, wherever possible, positive. If you have constructive criticism or advice for writers please do give it but be polite about it! You don’t have to like everything you read but if you really don’t have anything nice to say about something then I would suggest you refrain from posting. And if all you want to say is you liked a piece and no more…that’s great too! We all know how writers like to be appreciated! ;)

Authors:- Please take constructive criticism as it is intended, as an attempt at improving possible flaws/problems/areas of confusion in your piece. They are not (hopefully!) personal attacks on you or your work.

• This is supposed to be a fun way to get to know new writers and potential partners, to exercise our writing brains, it’s not a competition, please keep that in mind!

• One more thing…suggestions for future prompts are very welcome and should be PM’d to me – Britwitch – as a link ideally. :)

Previous challenges and reviews can be found here.

Happy reading!

Is it really only a few days into the month and already so many great pieces?! I'm looking forward to more!

Some quick comments:

DesEsseintes: I've read your posts, but this is the first 'real' piece I've read of yours. Well done sir. The bespoke path was very clearly etched in my mind.

AmbrosiaCaress: Both of your pieces, though very different, were vividly played out. Your "No one's watching" piece was particularly well done.

Essie: Another well done piece. I'd be interested in seeing you develop this one and last months pieces into something more.

PS: First, Thank you again for your kind words. As always your writing has a life of its own. I enjoyed your entry this month very much.

And I'm going to echo some comments elsewhere, as well as in the past few months comment threads, Angel and Niceandbrutal, you should both consider submitting something. If not individually, then as a team. I too am a fan of the Hostage thread. I think your contributions would be most entertaining.

Just my $0.02... for what it's worth.

Thanks so much... I am glad you enjoyed... and I too am loving the contributions this month and look forward to more...

Comment for Brit

Wow ... that's beautiful Brit ... so emotive and a bitter/sweet ending.
I had to post a comment to say how much I loved it and how the story just totally drew me in ... and left me wanting so much more ...

Thank you for sharing ...

Thank you for the lovely comments!
Always great to know people have enjoyed what you've written.

And I should get on with my own reviews too, it's been another great month for submissions.
And there's still time for those who haven't managed to yet...

hint hint

DesEsseintes

Goodness me what a gorgeous piece this was. Such vivid and rich language, loved it! Thanks so much for sharing it with us! :rose:

Ambrosia Caress

Both of these were brilliant, and so very different. The second was especially good, creepy and worrying and fantastic. :rose:

Essie

I've already told you that I really really enjoyed this but wanted to say it here too. It was such an emotional piece and it really captured the wariness that comes with letting oneself go.
Awesome, lovely! :rose:

prettyserpentine

Oh, I could read your words all day!

happy sigh

Another wonderful piece and another individual take on the prompts. Great stuff! :rose:

How Far Does One Have to Run? ~ havinfun50

This was really different from anything I think we've ever seen in the Challenges and I loved it! Well done you! :rose:

500 Miles/Verdant/Road Trippin' ~ fr33ks33k

Not just one but 3 examples of your flair with the written word. Lucky lucky us!
They were all sublime, truly. I would kill for just a smidgeon of your talent. :rose:

Just a reminder that today is the last day of the July challenge for new pieces but comments and reviews can be made at any point.

Would be nice though...

wink wink

...if this month's authors knew what people thought...

nudge nudge

...just saying. :D

A lot of you have read, and rightly so - some of the pieces this month were amazingly good, but not many have commented.
Take a moment to let them know you did (because we know you did!), it doesn't take long.

Promise. :rose:

Sorry, Miss....

DesEsseintes - you have a beautiful command of language, creating word pictures as clearly as an artist with paint and easel. Bravo, sir.

Ambrosia Caress - your Road Trip piece captured the giddiness and anxiety of someone setting out a new adventure, not knowing where that road would lead. Enjoyed it a lot.

Pretty Serpentine - oh that twist! Drawing the reader in one way and then flipping them in the opposite direction. Just gorgeous.

havinfun50 - I had to read this a few times to get a grasp on it but once I did, it really made me think. Loved the spoon imagery, beautifully put.

fr33ks33k - three tasty morsels of words, each a perfectly sized bonbon of goodness. Particularly fond of 500 Miles.

Britwitch - the haunting melancholy legend of the Lady in Green, so stunningly written and bittersweetly heartwarming. Hugs to you, my lady!
