Game of Thrones Thread WITH SPOILERS (you've been warned)

Rothfuss is a Rowling wannabe, twice I've tried to get into his series and can't make it past the first book. Also, his female characters are fingernails on chalkboard annoying.

I've read all of GRRM's short stories and most of his other novels, the only thing I haven't gotten to yet is his Wild Cards series, too big of a commitment for me to make right now. IMHO GRRM is a great writer, even when he gets bogged down in multiple plotlines and meandering characters, he's still interesting to read, if frustrating, like when you can spend 1000 pages reading about all these characters and the important ones don't get much done.

Bullshit on the Rowling wannabe. His take on magic is totally different from hers. Every single person who I know that has read his books loves them. GRRM simply isn't in Rothfuss' league. Wasting time on storylines that go no where is not the sign of a good author, just a wordy one.

He would be if he ever fucking wrote.

I know how you feel but I would rather wait and get his quality work.

I read the first one before the second one even came out. Bastard who recommended it in the book store didn't tell me it was part of a series that wasn't finished.

I am dying for the third book.

I really like looking at Jon Snow but these episodes on the wall are so dark, visually I mean, that they're hard to watch.

I have been out enjoying the early Maine summer.

I was wondering the same thing.

I am NOT enjoying the early AZ summer.

I was drug kicking and screaming from Maine to AZ in 1975. I have bitched about it ever since, yet, still I remain.

REAL blueberrys, Copper Beach trees, four seasons, actual woods with undergrowth and adventure, the salt air, the rocky beaches....actual architecture on homes...

Are you catching up?

I'm current. An entire episode at one location is unusual as of late. Pity about the ginger girl. She had spunk. Good to see Ghost get to rip some throats.

I'm not sure who Jon is going after up north...

He's going to try to parley with Mance Rayder, King Beyond the Wall.

This episode was akin to the battle of the Blackwater episode in season 2.

Just wait until next week's episode (and season finale) it's going to be fun! - GOT style -

Blackwater-ish, yes, but apart from everything having to do with Ramsay, this is pretty much my least favorite venue in GoT. I know it's "important" in the broader sense, but the characters just don't pop for me. I guess Harington is a big part of the problem.

I must have missed an episode. How did Ygritte and the other Wildings get passed the wall?

They've been south of the wall since last season when Jon was with them. He scaled the wall with Ygritte and the other Wildlings at a less guarded spot. Then when he left the wildlings to go back to the wall, that's when Ygritte shot him full of arrows.

Then Ygritte's group met up with the Thenns (the cannibals), including the Magnar - the bald dude that could warg his mind into the owl like Bran does with Summer and Hodor - I think the Thenns got around the wall by ship.

I agree with you Wrong Element. I liked the battle for the wall well enough but it was far from one of the best episodes while the Blackwater episode was outstanding. One thing though, Ramsay wasn't in this episode, do you mean Samwell?

Also there are 3 major things that need to happen to close out the plot points of the third book, A Storm Swords, (well 2 major things and one very cool thing) and with only one hour of television left to do it, I feel it's going to seem too rushed and not as good as it could be, unless they save one of the plot points, like the "cool thing" for the beginning of next season. Actually that would be an awesome way to end the first episode of season 5.

Thank you.

He's going to try to parley with Mance Rayder, King Beyond the Wall.

Mance: "Do you know what it takes to unite ninety clans, half of whom want to massacre the other half for one insult or another? They speak seven different languages in my army. The Thenns hate the Hornfoots, the Hornfoots hate the Ice-river clans, everyone hates the Cave people. So, you know how I got moon-worshipers and cannibals and giants to march together in the same army?"

Jon: "No."

Mance: "I told them we were all going to die if we don't get south. 'Cause that's the truth."

No, I meant that if we were going to spend a whole episode in one place, I'd much rather it be something like Blackwater that involved not just action and high stakes, but people I care to see. I get the Night's Watch as a concept, but the characters are just interchangeable ne'er-do-wells surrounding Jon. And the stakes weren't even all that big, because there's still all those people north of the Wall coming after them.

The only thing worse would have been watching Ramsay twirling his nonexistent mustache for 60 minutes.

They could have spent half the episode showing the battle for the wall and the other half dealing with Tyrion's plight and the show would have been better for it.

Of course the battle for the wall was much more interesting in the book, Pyp and Green didn't even die, but broken record and all that...
