"The Biggest Non-Story in Tuesday’s Elections? Mississippi Voter ID Implemented With No Problems"

http://dailysignal.com/2014/06/06/b...ns-mississippi-voter-id-implemented-problems/

"It wasn’t the biggest story following Tuesday’s elections in various states, but it was the biggest and most-ignored non-story.

Mississippi’s new voter ID law got its first run in the June 3 primary, and the sky did not fall. Despite the tiresome and disproven claims by opponents that such laws cause wholesale voter disenfranchisement and are intended to suppress votes, Mississippi “sailed through” its first test of the new ID requirements, according to The Clarion Ledger, the newspaper of Jackson, Miss.

Aside from being able to use any form of government-issued photo ID, like every other state with ID requirements, Mississippi provides a free ID for anyone who does not already have a government-issued photo ID. Contrary to the claims of those who say large numbers of Americans don’t have an ID, Mississippi estimated that only 0.8 percent of Mississippians lacked an ID. In fact, even that may have been an overestimate since the state had to issue only about 1,000 voter ID cards. All those who forgot their ID on Tuesday also could vote by an affidavit as long as they returned and showed an ID within five days.

The Clarion Ledger reported how few problems there were in the implementation of the new requirement. Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann said the state “devoted countless hours of time and training to election officials across the state” and the result was that there were hardly any complaints. There was only one reported case of a man mistakenly being turned away for lack of an ID, at which point an election commissioner was sent to solve the problem. But this was one of the few reported problems across the entire state in which almost 400,000 voters turned out to cast their ballots in the primary elections, including in the fiercely contested Republican U.S. Senate primary where incumbent Thad Cochran faced off against challenger Chris McDaniel in a razor-thin election.

As Sid Salter from the Clarion Ledger put it, the voter ID law was a “non-event” and “voters expressed little, if any, inconvenience at the polls due to the new law.” So how is the new law being covered by the media? Instead of reporting that the voter ID law is “sailing through,” the mainstream media has instead elected to remain silent. As Hosemann said, “No news is good news.”"

Looks like those devilishly clever black people in Mississippi foiled another racist plot and somehow managed to get an ID.

We is on the long slow road to Jim Crow 2.0!

A little perspective, sadly lacking in the cut-n-paste hit piece, is in order.

First of all, there are almost 2 million registered voters in MS.
A whopping 400K turned out on election day, the vast majority of them voting in the contested Republican primary, which pitted Bidness-as-usual Thad Cochran vs. Fuck-all-them-niggers Teahadist Chris McDaniel.

As such, this brought out the most passionate, most involved and most racist white male voters.

This was not the demographic that voter ID laws are intended to suppress...non-white, non-English speakers and women ("negars, beaners and sluts" in Vettespeak).

Not surprisingly, the bitter White Privilege editiorials are having a field day with this "victory", even though the system was not truly tested this go-around.

The real test will come in the general election, and I suspect we'll see a much different story emerge.

That's because Democrat turnout is low in non-presidential elections.

Mississippi has a higher percentage of black people than any other state, so I'm sure plenty voted. Having or getting an ID isn't a problem for black people.

We shall see, but I'll bet there will be no problem. We've had voter ID for years where I live, and nobody has a problem with it.

Don't tell rob or any one left of bat shit RWCJ that....to them requiring ID for EVERYTFUCKINGTHINGINTHEWHOLEFUCKINGNATION except voting is cool but requiring an ID to do that is 110% pure racism.

They don't know how....they don't know why.....but it's racism.

Liberals choose to fight the strangest battles. Even when it's perfectly obvious it's a battle they can't win. It would make so much more sense to just help anyone who needs an ID, if there is anyone, to get a damn ID.

Good morning, fuckwit! :D

I was thinking about those women who'd gotten married or divorced and hadn't gotten around to getting their drivers license name changed....and then these women ("sluts" in Vettespeak) get turned away from the polls because of mismatched IDs....or the reverse, where they update their drivers license but don't re-register to vote.

How about those poor veterans living in nursing homes...their drivers licenses expired years ago, they don't get out much, but they do try and do their civic duty and vote. Tough shit, GI, no ID, no vote.

Voter ID is not racism, but it's not right. It codifies a distrust by the government towards its people.

About time a state got this right.

But I don't understand your statement about "devilishly clever black people foiling another racist plot". Is there some study somewhere than says that only black people don't have IDs?

There probably is such a study somewhere. There seems to be one about everything black people have an alleged problem with, like crossing the damn street.

Voter ID is a huge problem if youre ILLEGAL or a Nigga FELON or UNDERAGE or registered elsewhere.

But not a problem to buy cigarettes or beer.

Wait till we need ID to buy pistols. The racism will be epidemic then.

Perhaps the solution there is to give them a power over the cars speeding towards them or the ability to compel drivers to yield at crosswalk signs as they promised to do upon receipt of the driver's license.

Maybe put up cameras at every crosswalk and send a ticket to every driver who does not yield. It goes without saying that the cameras should be painted black.

ETA: by "power", I mean something like the following pic. You just have to pretend that Neo is a black guy wearing nondescript clothing.

Requiring an id to vote is not a problem. Having inconsistent criteria for what a valid id is, is. As well as nonsensical red tape for getting one.

Has Mississippi managed to install a new government buerocracy hoop to jump through without un(?)intended consequences, then good for them.

Good morning, fuckwit! :D

I was thinking about those women who'd gotten married or divorced and hadn't gotten around to getting their drivers license name changed...

Morning!!

If voting meant that much to them maybe they should get their fucking paperwork in order like they were supposed to back when they got their divorce.

and then these women ("sluts" in Vettespeak) get turned away from the polls because of mismatched IDs....or the reverse, where they update their drivers license but don't re-register to vote.

Once again if they didn't re-register to vote it must not be very important to them, and they can go fuck themselves with that "You should be held liable for my clusterfuck!!" bullshit.

How about those poor veterans living in nursing homes...their drivers licenses expired years ago, they don't get out much, but they do try and do their civic duty and vote. Tough shit, GI, no ID, no vote.

Nursing home staff needs to be held liable for not keeping their peeps paperwork square.....I hold the staff responsible, if they aren't taking care of their patients needs they need to be held liable.

Once again making sure people follow the system/rules/regs and is all on the same page eliminates a lot more issues or the opportunity for issues to happen than it causes. The only problem it causes is it requires everyone to pull their shit together enough to acquire ID. I did it when I was a small child....it ain't that fucking hard and if you can't spare the hr or two to go wait in line or the 5 min online to order up a new one/change name/addy like EVERYONE ELSE then fuck them.

Voter ID is not racism, but it's not right. It codifies a distrust by the government towards its people.

It's not wrong either.

I think it shows more distrust of our political process in particular than the government or the people, and it should. The only reason we use the antiquated crock of shit system we do now is so that the wealthy/powerful politicians can manipulate it to their advantage.

GAWD FORBID WE TRY AND IMPROVE IT!!! HURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!

And it shows....we have horrid voter turn out, everyone feels totally disenfranchised and they should. Why should I botanyBoy give a fuck? Deep blue get's my vote by default of my zip code regardless of how I vote.....so what's the fucking point if I don't even have a choice?

Not a single reason we shouldn't have a direct democracy with all the communications technology at our disposal.....want more votes? Make people feel like it's worth their fuckin' time.

What does this have to do with voter ID? I think it's a good start towards that....at least it will make people feel like the elections are less vulnerable to voter fraud and might very well cull some of it from both the politicians and the voters.

Something like that could actually be done, but kind of in a reverse fashion. We could require that all automobiles have a forward facing camera and something like facial recognition technology, only more geared to skin color, and when a black pedestrian is spotted waiting to cross the street the brakes on the car would automatically bring it to a halt. Problem solved.

All of which would increase the cost of the car, which would then be passed on to buyers? Are you completely out of your mind?

Why do I have to pay for your (generally, not you specifically) inability to abide by the rules of the road?

Because of slavery, maybe?

Because of slavery, maybe?

I think you mean racism rather than slavery. And here, too, no, I shouldn't have to pay for another person's backwards thinking. If they drive badly, their insurance goes up. If they can't abide by the rules of the road, their insurance goes up.

It's an elegant solution, really.

But slavery sounds even worse than racism.

Behold.....I-man's most conservative, almost libertarian sounding post.....ever.... Just sayin'

If you start agreeing with vette I'll just freak out and delete lit from my computer and pretend it never existed for at least 48 hrs.

I don't think of the conservative movement as a whole is a bad thing. I just don't take kindly to the movement's use of fear as the basis for every position.

As for vette, the fact that his and my opinion happens to coincide is happenstance. He'll reverse his position soon enough. Dude is a walking marionette and who, I think, enjoys having a hand up his ass controlling his every movement and thought.

.

I'm wagering that statement isn't true.

Also, how did they prove there were no problems?

And in the end, increased government intrusion wins the day.

You define governmental intrusion as the government ensuring the process through which the government itself is elected?

You have so much better issues against governmental intrusion than voter ID.
