Game of Thrones Thread WITH SPOILERS (you've been warned)

Normally I hate when movies/shows change the book but have to admit I am enjoying how they are diverging from certain parts while remaining true to the overall series of books.. I think it is actually necessary to keep it moving along and keeps it interesting for those of us who have read it.. even knowing what was coming the whole scene with the viper and the mountain was intense..continue to be impressed by the way HBO is doing this.

Was the squishing bugs story setting the table for the squishing of the head scene?

The end of this season is just the launching point for the really big adventures. Season 5 should be the best if you like action and adventure. I seriously wish he would move his fat ass to finish book 6. Too too many unanswered questions. It is starting to read like an Edgar Rice Boroughs novel.

Keep in mind it's a TV show, and thus is always going to have more scenes like Tyrion discussing beetles than it will large-scale battles. The budget is what it is. That's why the Blackwater set piece was such a big deal for fans.

Speaking of which, the previews for the next episode certainly seemed to imply some major action. The next-to-last episode of every season has always been a stunner.

Well there's the battle on the wall and the aftermath, something major still to happen in King's Landing, and then something else very cool I'm hoping will happen this season. That's all to close out book 3 most of seasons 3 & 4 have been based.

He doesn't pull it together I'm killing a Stark.

I think its more of a trend, they don't close the loop on storylines or sometimes, give us a good dramatic ending. This show being the possible exception. I'm just assuming its an on-going series and won't end until the ratings drop, it just costs too much to produce or they lose their writers.

7 seasons is the end goal of GOT though the producers they admit it might go 8.

“It feels like this is the midpoint for us,” Benioff says. “If we’re going to go seven seasons, which is the plan, season 4 is right down the middle, the pivot point.”

The seven season goal-line has been floated in the media before, but the writer-producers of the acclaimed fantasy hit series says they’re firmer than before that three more seasons sounds about right.

My prediction: we'll still be waiting for Winds of Winter after GOT has its final episode.

considering books 4&5 each only really cover half the characters each and are fairly concurrent, are they going to mix up the books for the series so you don't have to wait another year (or two?) to see all of your fav characters?

nothing can compare to the books but HBO has done a phenomenal job so far.. can't believe this season is almost over..

I don't think GRRM is good writer. The best part about him is that he is unpredictable as hell and will kill off good characters (often in shocking ways). His actual writing is middle of the road and he spends too much time going into detail on plot lines where little happens.

Now if you want to read a great writer, Patrick Rothfuss is awesome.

Rothfuss is a Rowling wannabe, twice I've tried to get into his series and can't make it past the first book. Also, his female characters are fingernails on chalkboard annoying.

I've read all of GRRM's short stories and most of his other novels, the only thing I haven't gotten to yet is his Wild Cards series, too big of a commitment for me to make right now. IMHO GRRM is a great writer, even when he gets bogged down in multiple plotlines and meandering characters, he's still interesting to read, if frustrating, like when you can spend 1000 pages reading about all these characters and the important ones don't get much done.

Did you read Jordan's Wheel of Time? At least five books of that series were filler until Jordan died and Brandon Sanderson tied up all the loose ends.

No kidding. I lost interest reading the ninth book (Knife something?) when it took 600+ pages to describe two fucking days in the life of all the characters.

Did Moraine Sedai ever make her triumphant reappearance? They've been teasing that for over a decade....

I read WOT up to the 11 th book, though I skipped most of the tenth. I read the WOT Wiki to find out how it all ended.

It worries me that GRRM seems to be getting the same kind of filler issues Jordan had. But, GRRM'S filler is still interesting where Jordan got excruciatingly dull. However Jordan still managed a new book every 2 years roughly until he died. GRRM seems bored himself with the series and wants to do anything but work on the books.

And Jordan wins hands down for writing the.most annoying female characters, not that the male ones are much better.

I seriously hope HBO cut all the Dornish stuff out.
