Will Edit for Literature!

Hi, I'm looking for a long term relationship (of the editorial variety) with an author who writes primarily in nonhuman or anachronistic settings. I have a special preference for non-/lightly erotic stories as well. Believe it or not, I am in fact here for the stories more than the pictures.

I would say I'm a bit sexually vanilla. I would strongly prefer to not edit sexual violent or aggressive stories, like BDSM or non-consent. Stories with incest or anal as a core theme also bother me. But barring that, as long as the story is in English, I'd be happy to help you polish it up.

Just an FYI. BDSM is not all about violence or non-consent. BDSM, like all other categories, have ranges from light to heavy. Just saying.

Outside of the actual bdsm forum the majority of readers and writers here have no real clue what the difference between BDSM and non consent is.

Most think if the girl has to say sir while being raped its BDSM.

You're right, but I personally consider it aggressive, which bothers me. I don't mean to offend anyone with that, and I realize there are many shades, but without going into minute detail that's the skinny of my opinions on those genres

Then you're doing the right thing by calling out that you won't do it so you don't get any nasty surprises.

I understand what you're saying. That being said, what's bdsm to one person is something else to someone else. Too often, the SM is what people see as the entire range of BDSM. And I'm no expert on this category. I had a writer who recently realized his stories had bdsm themes (bd, not sm), after someone else pointed this out to him. I could have told him, but in his case, I didn't feel it was my place to say, "You know, you're stories really should be put into another category, or I don't think you're stories are what you think they are."

And I've learned never to commit to editing a project until I've seen the story and know that it's something I'm comfortable with. Lovecraft will tell you that. Hey, LC!

My ex-sis-in-law (still my daughter's aunt) is one of those NYT Best-Seller names. She wasn't always so, of course. In her salad days, we carried on a lively email dialogue. We use to ask each other, "Read any good books lately?" That morphed into, "Finished reading any good books lately?" and then me asking her, "Finished writing any good books lately?"

'Tis a pertinent question. STARTING reading or writing is much easier than FINISHING same. I have a few (less than 200) stories in dire need of endings. Pray for me.

I've finally worked out what it is about your sig that bothers me. I can't imagine a fencing instructor suggesting the eye socket as a target given its size and the fact that the surrounding area is pretty well armored against a sword thrust - at least the sort of sword you'd fence with. If you had the opportunity to thrust at the head you'd be better off aiming for the adams apple - ends a fight just as quickly and a near miss will still incapacitate.

Haha, well to begin with, it's a quote from a book. Secondly, adept-level fencing training can sometimes involve using a suspended ring or hoop as a target, which usually hang at about eye level. You'd also be surprised how naturally easy it is to hit something the size of an eye, at around the proper height, when you train using a scoring area that small.

Edit: On a side note, since this thread has become a completely awesome rolling discussion instead of the editorial ad it was suppose to be, my profile icon (I think this site calls it an avatar) won't show up. Does anyone have any thoughts on that?

yeah - but hitting paper targets and hitting moving targets that are trying to hit you back are not even slightly similar - mind you I've never fenced, although I've always fancied the idea. my experience though is that pragmatism trumps artistry in combat

No offense taken lol but trust me, after 600+ hours of combat, hitting the same dent on your opponents mask becomes natural. And annoying, so don't do it or you might get pommeled.

I periodically edit for the rascally LC. Our most recent venture was his Earth Day contest story. And it wasn't a category I usually edit for because the category tends to make me cringe. (First Time). So when LC approached me about editing his story, I told him I would have to read it first before agreeing to edit. I really enjoyed reading the story and editing it.
