Hidden Camera(s) Story

I had an idea for a hidden camera story that I am thinking about writing and wanted to hear some thoughts, ideas, suggestions, etc.

My idea involves a cute neighbor not too far out of college that moves in next door to a family with kids. The oldest son is in middle school/ high school at the time and grows up "checking out" the next door neighbor as he grows up like any teenage boy would. There is nothing here that I would write about as the kid would be too young at the time, but just setting some back story.

A few years down the road as the kid is in college he is home for the summer. The cute girl next door is going out of town for a week to visit family or friends and asks the college son to keep an eye on things while she is away and house sit for her. He agrees but while she is gone he buys and hooks up 1 or multiple small cameras in air vents within her house. There are a lot of easy to install home security systems and stuff at BestBuy and similar stores that are wireless and feed back to a larger device. You can watch the feeds live from personal electronic devices like a laptop, tablet, etc. or records several hours to the DVR and watch later. With no wires and because the cameras are hidden in air vents and let's be honest, who ever pays much attention to their air vents, the neighbor never notices them when she returns home.

The college guy can record videos of her changing, touching herself, or even fucking her boyfriend, married men from the neighborhood, etc. to take back with him to school or use for blackmail. The neighbor soon becomes very popular as the student goes back to school and shares the password to his DVR with his frat brothers who often have the live feed of her place on televisions throughout the house.

There is potential for the neighbor to find the cameras at some point and be angry, or decide to be even more of an exhibitionist. The neighbor could keep the cameras and videos a secret or use some of the more incriminating videos to blackmail his hot neighbor into performing on camera for him or his buddies, even come to visit his frat at some point, etc.

I know this story isn't 100% realistic, but I think the technology is out there and it's at least realistic enough to make a fun story out of it.

Actually, the premise is quite realistic, and I'd be surprised if it hasn't happened already in TRO (The Real World). As a story, I can see a few approaches:

* Yeah, gaining points at the frat -- hopefully the college is far from the hot.gal's home, like on the opposite coast, so her location and identity aren't too easily revealed.

* Yeah, once the hot.gal knows she's been recorded, the exhibitionist or sex-blackmail scenarios can play out (but those may be mutually exclusive).

* Or maybe she knew about the cameras since day one, and has fun brain-jamming the voyeur.

* The blackmail aspect -- not necessarily for sex with the hot.gal, but for cash payments from people she has bedded, of all genders and species, who don't want their dalliances publicized.

* Let's say that one of hot.gal's lovers is prominent or otherwise notable. The voyeur, or one or more of his frat.bros or other buddies who have seen the vids, hates that person. They rig a feed over live TV of the action, leading to destruction of the lives of that prominent person AND of the voyeur -- while the hot.gal gains notoriety and becomes a pr0n star.

* A totally different, even sweet approach: The voyeur keeps his surveillance a secret, for a LONG time. The hot.gal stays in the same house for decades and the voyeur watches her life evolve, even to the point of such obsession that he has no life himself. He's sucked into her soap opera.

Those are a few ways to spin it.

(a nice excuse to describe lots of hot sex in detail in the story) The camera feed is very short range so he goes to a local college and lives at home so he can continue to watch the object of his desire.

The over time the young man falls in love with the woman, even though he is only watching her on video. He wants to tell her all about his love, but cannot because a) she is older, and b) he would have to explain the cameras.

Eventually the young man graduates gets a job and moves to another city. He no longer watches the woman until one day while visiting his parents he is curious to see if his video feeds re still working and some of them are.

What he sees through the few working cameras is that the woman is now married. He also sees that her husband is abusive. When he sees this he realizes that he still loves the woman and he hatches a plan to save her from her abuser hoping she will fall in love with him.

This one isn't so farfetched. I read a news article a few years back about a maintenance man at a motel who was arrested for installing hidden cameras in the motel rooms. Criminal charges, lawsuits--it was a big mess. The premise is wholly believable. It's the next step that determines whether your story is successful or not.

I wouldn't go the blackmail route with this one. Instead, I'm thinking the student has live feeds going on at his frat house or dorm, and all his friends are getting into the action. It becomes a drinking game. Some of the bolder guys do a little detective work and find out where she lives. After that they start stalking her, from a safe distance. Some of them drive around her neighborhood and knock on her door for some contrived reason. They approach her in the supermarket. And when one of them finds out where she likes to go to blow off steam, they follow her to her favorite bar. At this point it becomes a contest to see who can bed her first. She can't figure out why she's getting so much attention from college-aged men, but after a while she starts to like it.

Meanwhile, the original student who started it all is realizing he made a huge mistake and is wondering how to fix it. He's frustrated because his crush has become everyone else's object of lust. The thought that someone else could end up fucking her is making him crazy. He's considering telling her, but he knows that will not end well for him. So he tries to come up with a plan to remove the cameras and shut down the whole operation before it blows up in his face.

Finally, one of the guys is at the right place at the right time and ends up alone with her. She's drunk and horny, and he's ready to claim the prize. The original student is sick with regret and envy. He decides he has to stop it, somehow.

Here are two quick thoughts that I have:

1) What's the background on this neighbor? I think the details about her change the story completely. Personally, I like the idea of the neighbor being in her early 30's. Maybe she recently graduated from med school, or law school, and has a great job. That's why she can afford to live alone with a residential neighborhood.

2) Personally, I like the idea of the the neighbor finding out early on that her house was bugged. She's shocked, stunned. But slightly aroused. She decides to tease him, put on voyeuristic shows for him.

Then she blackmails him in a non-malicious way. She tells him that if he doesn't do what she says, she's going to take the evidence to his parents. He's nervous obviously, and apologizes profusely. Then she tells him to pull his pants down. He's shocked, but he does it. Then she performs oral sex on him. Their relationship remains that way, with her calling the shots.

I'd steer clear of the "backstory stuff." As I remember Laurel's viewpoint on the subject; "adults pop out at 18 years of age with entirely new ways of looking at sex. Kids (anybody under 18) neither want, think or wonder about sex before that."

People write stories about human growth patterns regarding sociology and such and include what teenage boys think, that's fine because they aren't writing erotic stories. It's more about education, than erotification, that's why they get away with it.
"Checking out" could be misconstrued as suggestive erotic thinking of a pre-adult. Personally, I'd dump that part of it and develop the backstory in another way...

Maybe he turns 18 and sees her going off to college and has nawsty ideas. Then when she comes back...

Indeed. I had a story that could have gone on about a high schooler who was making a play for the local "mechanhick", because being in high school doesn't necessarily mean underage. It just depends on what part of the year you were born and when you started attending school, as to how old you would be in 12th grade (I was 18 in 12th grade and was never left back).
It felt too weird for me so I opted to change the story to eliminate that part.

I know it's paranoia but I always suggest to reference children as little as possible in erotic stories. It's better to be safe than sorry.

Are you saying that a minor "checking out" a neighborhood girl (minor)(the OP's concept), wouldn't be considered "sexualized?"
I'm not being accusatory, I'm just asking.

If you go for realism, I don't see how the hidden camera situation could end well for anybody.

The premise of the story is not unrealistic, but I'd suggest that the consequences of the characters actions should be.

Every few years you head a news story about some no tell motel owner getting busted for hiding cams in guest rooms. Not to mention all the cameras hidden in dressing rooms and public restrooms.
