Monetizing my work

Hi everyone, I was just hoping to find some information about monetizing my stories. I love that Literotica is free and still intend to release stories here on the site, and don't wish to make any money from them (other than contests perhaps). Although, for some of the ones that have taken me more time and effort, I would like to find a way to maybe make a bit of money from them.

I've looked into putting ads on my Tumblr site, but they won't allow it with NSFW content, as with many other blogging platforms.

Maybe someone out there in Literotica author land can provide me with some insight on how to go about this? It would be a great help and I appreciate any advice I can get!

Thank you :)

Yeah, we did this already.

Here you go.

It's not a very pleasant read, because like so much on this forum, it ends up with two people just sniping at each other, like they do all over the place here. I ended up blocking three people just because they so unbelievably rude.

Which is why I didn't respond to this query. Trying to help around here can be a real chore if you have a stalker hanging on you.

Thank you!

Thank you very much, I will read it right now. I figured it probably had been asked before, but have read how crazy some of these threads get around here and thought something fresh would be best.

I suppose every forum has its trolls. :(

Go to smashwords.com to publish your stories. You get to keep about 75-80% of what you chose to charge prices usually free - 4.99. This is e publishing only. learning th eformatting reqirements etc is pretty twisted, took me about three weks to get thefirst one stright, now I have published 5, sold 4 and made $11.86 total in about 4 weeks Woo Hoo!

Formatting for Smashwords is very straight forward. The way you format a document to publish here, is exactly the same for smashwords. Block paragraphs separated by hard carriage returns.

I post the dialog for Word an Open Office somewhere here...I'll try to find it...wait it wasn't here...my bad...anyway, I can't find it now, sorry.

But it is simple.

Here is words dialog for it...

And here is Open Office...

To separate paragraphs just hit the return twice.

Did SW change the rules at some point? [edit: apparently they did.] My copy of the Smashwords style guide (v. 6.16.12) expressly says not to do this. It's in the "Five Common Formatting Mistakes to Avoid" section:

Improper Paragraph Separation - Paragraphs require either first line paragraph indents or the block paragraph method. Otherwise your paragraphs run together and it becomes unreadable because your reader’s eye can’t distinguish where one paragraph ends and the next begins. Use one method or the other (indents are best for fiction and much non-fiction, blocks are usually only for non-fiction), but don’t use both. If you’re aiming for the block style, do not add paragraph returns between paragraphs on empty lines (to create the blank line). Instead, modify your paragraph style to add a 6 pt trailing “after” space following each the paragraph (see the Step 7 below, managing and modifying paragraph styles).

Your screenshots show no spacing above or below paragraphs; the style guide has a screenshot (section 7b-b) that specifies the 6-point "after" space mentioned above.

This is from the Style Guide that I downloaded today:

If you’re using the block method, you have two options for separating the blocks. The first option is to enter a hard paragraph return (hit the Enter key once) at the end of a paragraph, then hit the Enter key again to create a blank line. The second option, which I recommend and use here in the Style Guide, is to modify your paragraph style to define a trailing space. You’ll find this second method will save you a lot of time and prevent errors.

Basically you can use either though Smashwords recommends and prefers that authors use the latter method of "after spacing" either 6 or 10pt.

I downloaded the latest version and you & Zeb are right, looks like they changed that rule in the last year or so. I wonder what that was about?
