I have not been to work since last Wednesday. Three separate storms closed school Thursday, Friday, and today.

I expected this morning's message from the school district to say DON'T MAKE ANY PLANS FOR THE SUMMER.

With this summer's heat wave, you probably won't want to go outside anyway. :(

I feel for you. We got more snow today, too, although it's resulting in a delayed start and not a day off. And since we have half-day kindergarten, my daughter is staying home. They're taking the afternoon kids from now on when the opening is delayed. My son goes for the partial day.

And I'm waiting for them to extend the school year as well. Our kids originally had off on 2/14, then they made it an instructional day, then it ended up as a snow day anyway. Yesterday was of course President's Day and a federal holiday but they made that an instructional day as well. We did manage to squeak that one in.

Most of our building is not air conditioned. My classroom is like the tropics once it gets warm. I have one small window that opens. I try not to complain.

I keep praying to baby Jesus to postpone the 80s temps till the broccoli is ready to harvest. Its in the 70s at the moment. March is 10 days away.

Sounds rather Bastille like. Some what more appropriate for a French "history" teacher don't you think?

I remember when I was in school (ironically Eastlake school, given it's used in a lot of your stories) we hated May. Hated it. There was only one big fan in the corner of every room and half of them turned at the speed of mud.

The temps down here in May are always in the upper 80s night and day with jumps to the low 90s from around lunch till 3:00.

It's really hard to learn when you're melting.

Back to the cold weather side of this discussion, my brother posted on Facebook that some northern states are considering choosing a new state bird - the penguin.

It's snowed pretty white-out-y three times last week. Each snowfall was no more than two inches (except for one that was a little heavier) and it made the road conditions hell. Even as a student who does not have a car and doesn't have to walk far to get to class, I fell on my ass twice due to ice.

But today...

The sun is shining beautifully, and everything is melting, there is almost no wind, and according to the weather, it is exactly 32 degrees.

I walked to my aerobics class in a t-shirt and shorts. Weather feels so great after dat vortex.

That wasn't the bird I was thinking of. I was thinking of the one I have on each hand.

I'm sick of it.

I made it a point to come into work today to get out of the house (even though I was at work yesterday, no holidays for me). I couldn't stand being home another day.

Which is funny because penguins mostly live in the southern hemisphere.

Here too.

The path to our front door passes between walls 'o snow. Thursday's forecast, per NOAA.gov, says three to seven additional inches of snow with winds of 24 to 29 MPH winds and gusts up to 41 MPH (preceded by rain and freezing rain Wednesday night.)

Thankfully it will be a high of 31 degrees F. The lowest nighttime low this week is 11 F. At least the cold weather is gone.

Snow coming down in high temps like that is bound to be heavy. Tough to shovel and hopefully no broken branches. Maybe I'll get a snow blower next year.

There is a notable cluster of them in and around the Pittsburgh area.

Perhaps Penn could get away with a state bird change without too much kerfuffle.

(p.s. I'm tickled I got to use kerfuffle. Call me crazy.)

You must have a lot of energy and get into kinky stuff. I heard a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush so what does that get you, four? I'm sore just thinking about that.

I suspect we in the UK should choose the Mallard Duck.
:)

How about the Oozlum Bird that runs around and around squawking frantically before disappearing up its own arse?

That would suit the politicians' response to flooding.

Hey JBJ, we hit 82 yesterday and I am sure if it hadn't been cloudy this morning we'd get there today too. My thermometer says 79 right now and I hear lawn mowers.

I hate *those* penguins. Pah.

Kerfuffle is a great word, crazy. ;)

Yeah. Maybe if they were somebody else's birds...
