WIWAK we had a huge black & white TV console. With rabbit ears.

Also recall having just three stations, ABC, CBS and NBC. Not 300 stations like now. The local ABC and CBS stations went off the air at 12:00 with the national anthem and then until 6:00 a.m. all you would see was a test pattern.

We also had PBS. And yes they went off at midnight just as you describe. :)
 
When I was a kid, the only phone I asked my parents for was a gramma phone and there was no "I" in front of it *sighs*
 
wiwak my dad said someday we would have pay tv and we would pay for bottled water and we laughed and said no way!
