While I would love to be wrong about this, I really doubt the Texas GOP is afraid of Wendy Davis.

1) The data the Texas Democratic Party has for the state is woefully out-of-date.

2) Wendy Davis, outside of her advocacy for women, is sort of the personification of all the forces that make the Texas Democratic Party a joke, i.e. she's a white lawyer--it's yet another instance of the state party turning to the lawyers to help them win back the Anglo vote in Texas. It isn't happening.

3) The VRA is toast and they're no longer using the neutral interim maps became of that. Unless they actually do win the Anglo vote back, there is no way in Hell they are winning statewide on that alone.

4) The it's been nearly 20 years since the DNC has invested in Texas at all and the state party is a fucking joke. Building the actual statewide voter contact and volunteer bases you'd need takes more than a cycle.
