Media depictions of sex lower teen pregnancy rate

There is an article at thedailybeast about a book which claims TV depictions of sex and particularly MTV's "16 and Pregnant" show have measurably decreased teen pregnancy rates, something abstinence rings etc. never have.

I think that could be true, particularly if they show what devastating effects a pregnancy has on a teenager's life. In the same vein, the "Baby Think It Over" doll has probably done a lot to decrease teen pregnancy rates. Anything that drives home the reality of the experience helps.

All teenage girls should be made to watch a few natural birthing videos... It's anti-pregnancy "Blood Flows Red on the Highway" style.

Followed by a "day in the life of the unemployed single mother of an infant" video.

Or they could spend a few hours with my kids. The 5 y/o is a very effective birth control method.

Teen age pregnancy is down because the new craze is blow job parties.

Its all over the country and its the girls not the guys instigating it. A girl will bring several boys into a unused bathroom or classroom and pull a train.

So don;t get your hopes up that some lame TV show put out by "MTV" is doing anything to stop anything

They're just swallowing it these days instead.

Now why they do this? I suppose to be popular. Where are their parents?

Probably on face book or twitter or perhaps reading studies like this instead of instilling anything resembling values in their kids.

Propaganda is at an all time high in this country these days. Its becoming the fifties "all is well, we are all just fine cause we say so!"

People should stop watching and reading and start leaving their house and seeing what's really going on.

Consider how many of these children were born of young parents in their own right, and what those parents may have learned since getting pregnant ( or getting someone pregnant). More specifically, what didn't they learn, because when the lesson was thrust upon them, they were too immature or underdeveloped despite their maturity to actually learn the lesson.

Let me answer one of your questions: Where are their parents?

Dad ran off several years ago and Mom is at the office, in the supply closet, running her own blow job train on upper management.

Thinking that analogy might be more clear.

Point me to stats or an article or two on this. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but I'm skeptical that it's any kind of trend or craze.

Don't get started on that. Because at one time or another, nearly all of us have noted that if kids (or anyone) really want to do something, they'll find a time, place and way, no matter how good the parenting is.

Here's an article -- from 2012 -- about declining rates. It doesn't cite MTV's show, which probably had an effect on some kids, no doubt, but it does point out more education and increased use of birth control.
