My definition of most European countries is a mixed Interventionist economy that refuses to relinquish many of the basic Socialistic Principles that have created so many problems in the past. They keep wanting their Socialism, but keep having to retreat from it from their economies begin to collapse. Yes they are Socialist countries but they still have to keep returning to limited forms of Capitalism to survive. East Germany and the USSR, like Cuba and North Korea refused to turn back. Germany and Europe survive barely; no one looks to them as economic giants. With our retreat from the world while we embrace Socialism to make that perfect society that the Left always dreams of but can never produce, Europe is going to have to start paying for its own defense or accept Russian belligerence and intrusion in returning to its former borders complete with a buffer zone of former Soviet Satellite states. In short, Europe is a decayed shadow of what it once was ready for any barbarian that would to kick in the door and end it.

There are the high tech corridors of power and wealth, and then, there is Oakland (or any of the other cities in or teetering upon bankruptcy).
