The Isolated Blurt Thread III: Thread of Darkness

If you want to be humbled, become a professional investment manager.

The S&P 500 has had a 30.82% total return thus far in 2013 while the "total" stock market index (composed of the CRSP "total" stock market) has provided a total return in excess of 32%.

For the past five years, the S&P 500 has had an average annual compound total return approaching 19% (that means if you'd put $1.00 into the S&P 500 on 12/23/08, you'd now have $2.36). Very few professional investment managers have matched that return. Their clients and investment consultants are, at the least, unhappy with that fact and are, at worst, firing them.

It's a field where one is "wrong" almost every time one takes any action. You're wrong when you buy anything because it's nearly inevitable that there will be a lower price. You're wrong when you sell anything because it's essentially inevitable that there will be a higher price.

Excellent. I like how you measure things. :D

And pistachios! I'm there.

Wanna pistachio? *shares*

You, me and LTR can have a little soiree. I shall bring a hammer for those stubborn, cunty pistachios that remain closed.

It startled me too, thought I'd clicked on the fanny thread by accident.

Plus, I think I swallowed a pistachio shell.
